The creators of Trinity Buoy Wharf, popular arts neighbourhood in East London, present "Trinity Buoy Wharf Live!", featuring Blues and Roots Ensemble.
Led by double bassist Ed Babar, Blues and Roots specialises in playing music by the great bandleader/composer, Charles Mingus. A diverse septet of top international musicians from South Africa to Sicily, India to Cuba, the band has quickly grown a reputation for its captivating and raucous performances.
An evening showcasing the music of great jazz musician, Charles Mingus; music born out of 40s gospel churches, including everything from open improvised sections to beautiful ballad playing. Mingus' music served as a social commentary of the political turbulence in America through the 40s-70s, all within the context of great, swinging compositions!
"Blues and Roots Ensemble did a service to the larger than life legend Charles Mingus...handling the complexities of the bass playing genius with a dapper swagger." Jazz Standard.
