Join us on the Sunday before Halloween for a night shrouded in mystery and suspense. As the veil between worlds thins, immerse yourself in a classic silent horror film of the silver screen, brought to life with a haunting live music accompaniment.

A classic of Swedish silent cinema and a progenitor of the horror genre, The Phantom Carriage relates the legend that the last person to die each year has to drive Death's carriage and collect the souls of those who die the following year. David, a drunk, is killed in a brawl on New Year’s Eve and is picked up by the carriage driven by his late friend Georges.

Noted for its pioneering use of special effects and innovative narrative structure the film Influenced the works of Ingmar Bergman.

The live musical accompaniment will be provided by the exceptionally talented Stephen Horne on piano.

Stephen Horne has long been internationally considered one of the leading silent film accompanists. A house pianist at London’s BFI Southbank for over thirty years, he has played at all the major UK venues and recorded music for scores of films. Although principally a pianist, he often incorporates other instruments into his performances, sometimes simultaneously. He regularly performs internationally and in recent years his accompaniments have met with acclaim at film festivals in Europe, North America and Asia. In 2011 and 2012, he was commissioned to compose ensemble scores for the London Film Festival Archive Galas of 'The First Born' and 'The Manxman'. And every year since 2014, he has won in one or more categories in the annual Silent London poll.

Lovely stroll around one of the magnificent seven cemeteries in London. Such a privilege to be able to visit the recently renovated chapel. Impressive shadow master performing original and well choreographed sets. I had a great time and would recommend!
