Poet, ex-BBC journalist and traveller-of-140-countries Tony Howson launches his new collection Love, Hate & Fragility (Dionysus Press) with an intimate poetry and music evening at Hoxton Cabin.

Expect poems and stories shaped by Somalia, Sierra Leone, Libya, Ukraine and Gaza — but also Dylan songs on acoustic guitar, guest poets and musicians, a Q&A, and a proper book-signing chat at the end. Tony's writing has been called "a reporter's awareness of truths, political and human," covering concentration camps and rigged elections alongside sunrises, dancing and love.

Cosy, conversational, candle-lit. Bring a friend, grab a drink, stay for the medley.

Doors 7:50pm. Free RSVP.

Organiser

Hoxton Cabin
Hoxton Cabin is a small, candle-lit bar and an event space on Kingsland Road in East London. Bar upstairs, stage in the basement fifty-four seats, warm lighting, close-up audience. Comedy happens every night of the week under our Comedy Cabin brand, and a big part of what we do is themed shows that platform comedians and audiences we love: Queer Comedy, South Asian, French, Black, Irish, improv, and more rotate through the room. The basement is intimate, the acts are sharp, and new material gets workshopped here before it goes on the road. Later in the evening, and on Open Decks nights our custom-built sound system takes over. It's a proper rig, designed for DJs and groovy vinyl enthusiasts to play deep cuts the way they were meant to be heard. The same system powers our karaoke nights, including special karaoke takeovers bookable as private hires. Pub quizzes, poetry readings, book launches and acoustic sets fill the gaps. Have a drink, head downstairs, stay for the show.

The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I think the artist deserves a bigger venue with more light. His work is vital, informative and visually stunning. I recommend going, the venue is fun and casual, just a little too crammed to do David’s work justice ♥️
