Brick Lane Jazz Festival makes its debut at the Truman Brewery in April 2022: Three days of jazz music set across five stages, with twenty-four performing artists, the festival will showcase the best of London’s vibrant jazz scene. On Saturday 23rd April, Daniel Casimir will be taking over Ninety One Living Room stage for a unique live performance.
ABOUT DANIEL CASIMIR
Jazz FM’s “Instrumentalist of the Year” Daniel Casimir, returns with his solo debut album Boxed In, a dynamic collision of pulsing modern jazz & orchestral instrumentation, released last November on Jazz re:freshed.
Described to have won the Young Jazz Musician Award “with great mix of communicativeness, simplicity and sass” and winner of the Jazz FM "Instrumentalist of the Year," Multi-award winning bassist and composer Daniel Casimir has become a regular fixture within the UK jazz scene. Providing his heavy weight upright sound for the likes of Nubya Garcia, Ashley Henry, Camilla George and Binker Golding to name a few.
Featuring Casimir’s quintet of fellow British jazz luminaries, including Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Al Macsween & James Copus, Daniel’s debut album Boxed In astutely bridges traditional and contemporary jazz forms with enveloping strings, woodwind & brass arrangements, but under its intricate musical surface seeks to confront some necessary hard truths.
Daniel released his album as part of the London Jazz festival, to a sold crowd at the Southbank centre. The first single “Safe, pt.1” has been featured on the ‘UK Jazz’ playlist on Spotify and has over 100K streams. The live performance of the quintet has over 20K views on Youtube and the album was made “Editors Choice” by Jazzwise magazine.
