The Whitechapel Arts Showcase is back for a spring special! We once again present a five day arts festival bringing a selection of London's finest and emerging talent, in our intimite and friendly pub environment. This April we bring you a wider variety of evening shows than ever, ranging from grass-roots musicians to world-class comedy stars. The program features more interactive events than ever, with three afternoon workshops, an art exhibition and our final event; Whitechapel Cabaret & Bingo!!
We are also hosting free day-time events including an exhibiton presenting a collection of works by artists whose work enriches the streets of East London, as well as free creative workshops lead by our talented performers, and artist networking events.

Monday, Musical Madness

To kick off with a big ol’ bang, the Showcase brings its inaugural Monday of Musical Madness. A journey across multiple genres with 6 different acts from folky Indie trio Saint Boy, to the ethereal and emotive stylings of Laertis, to art rock band Duke Denver and The Deep Sea Creatures. Who doesn’t love a bit of mystery? So a top secret Headliner closes the show with a wild set of stars.

Line Up: Laertis, Shena Dyar, Saint Boy,  SASS, & headlining: Duke Denver and The Sea Creatures, Surprise headliner!

Doors: 2:30pm

Starting: 4pm

Tuesday, Theatre Show: Fan Girl

Fan Girl is a one-woman comic drama. Geraldine is a lonely woman caring for her invalid mother.  Her only respite is Zenobia, the hit U.S. television show loosely based on the life of actual third-century Syrian Queen, Zenobia. Dressed in her homemade costume, she ventures forth to meet her TV heroes at the first ever UK Zenobia fan convention. Written by award-winning playwright, Eddie Coleman, and starring Zoe Dolphin, this one-act comic drama also poses the questions; Who is Geraldine doing this for and who will she be when she returns home after the convention?

“A coming-of-age story that raised more than a few smiles” London Theatre

Doors: 7pm

Starting: 7:30pm

Wednesday, Niall Moorjani

Niall Moorjani is an award winning mixed- Scots-Indian non-binary writer, theatremaker and storyteller. They have toured all over the UK with their work for both children and adults. Notable festivals include the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Hay on Wye Book Festival and the Scottish International storytelling Festival. Niall’s work has been described as “storytelling at it’s finest” - The Skinny and “Genius” by the Scotsman. In 2022 their children’s show “The Girl And The Dragon” won best children’s show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the Derek Awards. They are interested in queer and bpoc stories and fantastical/historical subject matters.

“Genius reinvention of the form” - Fringe of Colour

“Storytelling at its finest” - The Skinny 5 stars

Thursday, Comedy Double Bill

Enjoy a night of world class comedy, as the Whitechapel Arts Showcase will be listing two Work In Progress shows in high demand from Mamoun and Ria Lina. Two hour long shows, with side-splitting laughter in an intimate space.

7pm: Mamoun Doors at 6:30pm

A rising star on the live comedy scene, Mamoun’s natural flair has made him a winner and finalist of numerous comedy competitions, including Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year and BBC New Comedy Awards. Join us for Mamoun’s work in progress stand-up show, “Why I Love White People”, which takes a left field look at all walks of British society from a revered scholar of hood philosophy.

“[Why I Love White People] That name will sell bare tickets” Mamoun

“Chilled composure and a fascinating back story… a comic who you’d like to hear more from” Chortle

“A loaded wit and a mischievous way of tweaking liberal guilt” Chortle

9pm: Ria Lina  Doors at 8:30pm

Ria Lina has quickly become a household name thanks to her provocative and truly fearless comedy in the British stand-up scene. A highly accomplished comedian, writer, and actor, it’s no surprise that being one of the hardest working performers in the business led to a critically acclaimed debut on Mock the Week BBC and Late Night Mash Dave. In preparation for her first major UK Tour - Riawakening - Ria will be delivering an energetic and fiercely hilarious take on coming out of the pandemic, but also divorce, the new normal, dating in a digital world, motherhood and what it really means to be a woman today.

Ria’s TV credits include Have I Got News For You BBC, Live At The Apollo BBC, Mock The Week BBC, Lovestruck High Amazon Prime, The Last Leg C4, Late night Mash Dave, Richard Osmond’s House of Games BBC, Unforgivable Dave, Question Team Dave, The Jeremy Vine Show Channel 5 and many more.

Friday, Whitechapel CABARET & BINGO - NOW FRIDAY THE 5TH MAY!

Our old hosts are out of action but fortunately, two lost midwestern tourists have been able to fill their spot. Meet Edgar and Jaynine, two patriots that love bingo as much as they love this new foreign idea of universal health care. Enjoy an entertaining night of Bingo, sprinkled with weird and wonderful acts Edgar and Janine have brought along whilst on their travels through the UK.

Doors: 7pm

Starting: 7:30pm

Weekday Lineup: All of the following events are free entry and will run from 12-3pm

Thursday - Shortbread Improv Workshop

Shortbread Improv alumni of Edinburgh's longest running improv group, The Improverts teach short-form, game-based improv comedy. Open to anyone, and no experience is ever necessary.
