Join HotBox, the Spitalfields BBQ specialist, and Neil Rankin, renowned chef behind Smokehouse and Bad Egg, in a serious curry cook-off on Monday 21st March.
For this very special event, two giants of BBQ have crafted a menu using their shared love of smoke and spice –
All meats primed in HotBox’s two-tonne rotisserie smoker and cooked over a custom charcoal grill, combining the best of BBQ with famous Indian flavours and dishes.
Designed for two to share, the epic line-up includes:
- Smoked Mutton Biryani (tender mutton smoked on the bone and served with rice in traditional curry spices)
- Beef Rib Butter Masala (a 28oz, masala-encrusted short rib drenched in butter masala sauce)
- Smoked Chicken 65 (Neil Rankin’s version of the famous Hyderabadi dish, made with smoked chicken marinated in yoghurt and finished in a spicy sauce)
- Pickled Onion Bhajis (Neil’s take on the traditional desi snack, using pickled onions for an extra kick)
- Jhal Muri (puffed rice with fresh chillies, onion and vibrant tamarind sauce)
- Homemade Mango Chutney & Raita
- Two different Paratha breads (one cooked by Neil and one by Basit’s mum!)
- Pistachio Ice-Cream & Masala Chai
Since opening its first restaurant in 2014, HotBox has served up some of the finest smoked meats in the capital. The reputation as BBQ innovators was born from roots in the London street food scene, using different smoking techniques and combinations of spices to create a totally unique style.
According to Basit Nasim, cofounder of HotBox: “The idea for this menu came about when Neil and I were discussing his life in Scotland and how his favourite food was curry which in turn got me talking about my mum’s home-style Pakistani cooking from my childhood. With our shared passion for both smoked meats and spices, the BBQ curry cook-off was born!”

5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.

7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.
