About the Social Diner:
The Social Diner is a gourmet supper club with a social purpose. We invite an extraordinary chef to cook alongside our apprentices at our social enterprise restaurant, Brigade Bar + Kitchen. Brigade trains people affected by homelessness to work in hospitality and catering and has employed over 150 people as apprentices. We've seen the likes of Michel roux Jr (The Langham), Shay Cooper (The Goring), Chris King (The Langham) and mark Hix (HIX restaurant) lead our supper clubs in 2017.
We're excited and thrilled to have chef Andrew Clarke, culinary force behind Brunswick house and St Leonards who will be hosting the night with us at Brigade Bar + Kitchen on the first floor. Andrew will be cooking a set course menu alongside with our Chef founder of Beyond Food and Brigade; Simon Boyle and our current apprentices. All profits will fund our training programmes for people affected by homelessness.
About Andrew:
Andrew has never been the most conventional chef, even right from the beginning. It wasn’t a passion for food or cooking that initially drew him to the kitchen but rather just the fact that he needed money to support his then main passion of music. However, like the case is for most of us, food found its way to a place in his heart.
As his passion for food grew he began to become known for making gorgeous and delicious dainty dishes in Brunswick House which championed vegetables. This very much challenges the conventional idea that most people would have of him; since he not only has the look but also the reputation for cooking with meat and BBQ.
As Andrew’s reputation for amazing food consistently grows non-stop he has opened a new restaurant called St Leonards in the summer of 2018. It is a culinary delight with an ice bar for raw fish and an open hearth fire with spit to cook meat and vegetables, making it not only an attraction for gorgeous food but also a great atmosphere with something different.
However, one of the most unexpected things about Andrew Clarke is that he is a massive spokesperson for mental health problems in the catering industry. He not only supports it but also talks about his own personal problems with great honesty and courage which then encourages others to share.
From having an overwhelming response by just sharing his personal struggles with mental health over social media, Andrew decided to start the charity Pilot Light. Which is an incredible campaign to help support people not only in the catering industry but also in the work environment with mental health issues.
