Move over sweet and sour pork... meat-free Chinese dining has landed in London Fields. Taking the reigns from Club Mexicana, Mao Chow previously operated a successful pop-up at Kingsland Road's Pamela and now the vegan food connoisseurs are spreading their wings to Mare Street. The permanent spot has space for 12 diners and a menu of entirely plant-based Chinese dishes; a first for London.

Swapping traditional meat-heavy dishes for contemporary fare, the small menu features signature dishes like salted cucumber salad with black vinegar, sesame oil and crushed garlic, as well as, oyster mushroom bao packed with Tian Mian Jiang mayo and spicy dan dan noodles. Drinks lean towards malted soy milk, sweet herbal tea, Taiwanese apple cider; if you're after something a little boozy, then it's BYOB. Leave the change at home, because Mao Chow is cash-free, as well as, walk-in only.
