Decks And The City – Friday 27 May 2016

What an amazing opening night we had on Friday 29 April. The place was packed and the buzz was electric. Bouncers adorned the door, the guestlist was long and the conversation flowed freely as shoes were tapped on the dance floor. Tempo Tantrum got the crowd going with House with a touch of cheeky breakbeat thrown in. Then Jay A wowed the crowd with an exquisite display of mixing using vinyl. When resident DJ, Ali Miraj, took control of the decks at 2am and began his set by dropping the original version of “When Doves Cry” by Prince the place went nuts. It was a fitting tribute to a music legend and “Decks and the City” had certainly stamped its authority on its first ever Friday night.

This month we will be joined by three highly talented DJs one of which is making his “Decks and the City” debut.

The event will be on Friday 27 May from 9pm – 4am

If you want to come please email malimiraj@hotmail.com to be added to the guest list. Free entry before 10pm and £5 after. Bring your dancing shoes.

The line-up is as follows:

9pm - 10.30pm - Huckleberry Spin

Hucklebery Spin works at an insurance broker based in Tower Hill on a 2 year graduate scheme. He is currently in the Corporate New Business Division learning a broker's craft of attaining valuable clients for the business.

His interest in DJing began in his first year at Nottingham Uni when he found the trusty Virtual DJ. He played around with that for about a year and then decided to take the plunge and buy a Pioneer controller which he still uses. He got into House music and started going to house nights at Stealth in Nottingham. He is now trying to save up for his first mixer and set of CDJs as well as seeing where this hobby on the side can take him.

He is at the start of a new chapter and has said goodbye to Technics and hello to his laptop. His day job is being in charge of the digital user experience for personal and business banking for NatWest & RBS.

A quant and spreadsheet-jockey, his musical comfort-blankets are Faithless, New Order, The Smiths, Nile Rodgers, Soul, Funk and Disco. His guilty pleasure is a thoughtful take on Deep and Tech House, energising rhythms, cool riffs, with flavours of the kaleidoscopic past, but fundamentally music that connects people in the here and now, unifies them to have fun and freedom in the moment.

Menus

  • Cuisine

    This event serves Pizza food.

  • A word from the chef:

Yard Sale Pizza It all began with a little oven, chugging away in Johnnie’s own backyard. Seven years later and we’re serving love and pizza across North, East and now South London. We’ve made some great friends along the way, starting with Macaulay Culkin and his band The Pizza Underground who performed at our Clapton shop’s launch party. Since then we’ve worked on some epic pizza collaborations from NYC pizza legend Frank Pinello, to Mercury prize nominated musician Loyle Carner and more recently, Dalston kebab legends Mangal 2 Through our special events and collaborations, we’ve been able to raise money for a number of charities over the years including Hackney Night Shelter, Football Beyond Borders and Chilli Con Carner, as well as feeding over 8,000 NHS staff at local hospitals during the pandemic through our NHS Pizza Fund. We were awarded Best Value Eats in the Observer Food Monthly awards in 2022, after winning their Best Cheap Eats award in 2017, have been voted London’s favourite pizza in Time Out’s inaugural Clash of the Slices in 2022, and were named London’s most-loved restaurant in Time Out’s 2016 Love London Awards. We’ve been featured in the likes of Time Out, The Telegraph, Buzzfeed, Shortlist, Vogue, Evening Standard and on Sunday Brunch. We’ll always be local at heart, making orders by hand and delivering them ourselves through our in-house delivery service – never through a third party. Handmade, hand-delivered from dough to door. It makes award-winning neighbourhood pizza that bit better. We hope you agree.
