Is this London's cutest afternoon tea?

Are you a mad hatter, a jammy dodger or the King of Hearts?

While we wouldn't normally advise chasing white rabbits down dark and dingy holes, there's one rabbit that should be followed, and that's the one found at the Sanderson. And while some might normally reserve afternoon tea for dresses with frills and stuffy mummies, we found one in London that's nothing, and we mean nothing, of the sort.

One of the most elegant hotels in London, it's no wonder that the Sanderson know how to up the afternoon tea ante. Coming at you with all things whimsical, this Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea isn't just backed by a ludicrously pretty backdrop, every detail is sketched and etched onto the plates. Themed from top to bottom, we had teapots topped with crowns, sweet potions labelled 'drink me' and a table that had mischief written all over it.

From savoury bites of smoked salmon Scotch quails egg with caviar and cream cheese down to a Mad March Hare vanilla pocket watch macaroon, Sanderson have ditched your bog standard tea bites and switch them out for themed food that really works. But it's not just the pretty pieces on the plate that impress, we were treated to a whole range of Alice inspired teas that paired perfectly over an afternoon that asks you to sip and admire, rather than just scoff and skip town. Our stand out bites? Those would have to be the chessboard gateau and the marshmallow magic mushrooms.

And while the price-tag may be considered a little high in London, don't suffer and skip on quality, as Sanderson offer quality and creativity in droves.

The Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea is served daily and can be found priced from £48 per person and £35 per child (for children 4-11 years old). Add a glass of Perrier-Jouët, Brut N.V. for a more luxurious, afternoon tea experience.
