Hot on the heels of Lumo's budget train to Scotland and Eurostar's newly proposed direct route to Switzerland, another exciting rail announcement is gathering steam. A new high-speed operator is planning to launch direct trains from London to Cologne by 2030, making city breaks to Germany quicker and easier than ever.

What Is The New London To Cologne Train Route?
The high-speed rail operator Gemini Trains is planning to introduce direct services between London and Cologne by 2030. The route would offer an alternative to Eurostar, making it easier for travellers to reach one of Germany's most vibrant cities without changing trains. This is all part of Gemini's newly announced rapid expansion, which outlines plans to run 11 daily services out of London, with eight trains that can fit 550 passengers. Gemini also plans to run services to Paris, calling at Disneyland Paris and Charles de Gaulle Airport, as well as Brussels, with future expansion envisioned to Frankfurt and Düsseldorf.
Train services would potentially run out of Stratford International in East London, with calls at Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International.
How Long Will The Journey Take?
At the moment, travelling from London to Cologne takes more than six hours and requires at least one change. The proposed direct service would cut around two hours from the journey, bringing travel time down to roughly four hours.
When Could Direct Trains To Cologne Launch?
The operator hopes to have the new service running by 2030, although the route is still subject to approvals and planning. If everything stays on track, Londoners could soon have another fast and convenient rail link into Europe that rivals the Eurostar.
How Much Will Gemini Trains Cost?
Ticket prices haven't been announced yet, but Gemini Trains estimates that one-way fares to Paris could start at about £59.
