What Is London’s Train Station Vineyard?
Denmark Hill station is now home to 25 Bacchus grapevines, quietly producing what could be some of London's most exclusive wine.
The vines are growing in the non-passenger areas of the station, with the project being looked after by the local Camberwell Society. The society has been transforming the station's overlooked spaces for years, adding artwork and planting all sorts of blooms including 56 lavender plants. However, the vineyard is perhaps its most unexpected addition.
Has London’s Train Station Vineyard Produced Wine?
The vineyard has successfully produced wine, but don't expect to find bottles on the shelves just yet, as the first harvest yielded just two bottles of wine. 2026 is the vineyard's first proper harvest, and the aim is to produce roughly one bottle per vine, although the final amount will depend on how the grapes fare.
The wine already has a suitably exclusive and fabulous name: Chateau Denmark.
