London is home to some of the country's best pubs, rooftop bars, and beer gardens, offering plenty of places to enjoy a pint in the sunshine or settle in for a cosy evening. What the capital isn't known for, however, is cheap drinks. With pint prices soaring, even a simple Guinness can put a pretty big dent in your budget. 

That said, there are still a handful of spots across the city where you can enjoy a quality pint of the black stuff without paying London prices. 1. Simmons

Known for its generous happy hour deals, Simmons is one of the cheapest places to enjoy a Guinness in London. Selected venues serve pints for just £4 during happy hour, making it a popular choice for budget-friendly drinks in the capital.

2. Ellie's

A favourite among Dalston locals, Ellie's serves up one of the best-value pints of Guinness in East London. With a laid-back atmosphere and outdoor seating, it's the perfect spot to spend an evening. Fun fact: Ellie's bar also hosted Charli XCX's wedding after-party too.

3. The Amersham Arms

4. The Marion Anderson

The Marian Anderson is a community-minded pub that brings a little more soul to the classic Central London boozer. It’s also a particularly wallet-friendly option considering its location, with a beer costing less than you might expect for its Zone 1 location. The bar serves a selection of pints, wines, and cocktails, alongside hearty pub classics and seasonal small plates. Best of all, a Guinness will cost you less than a fiver.

5. The William Morris - JD Wetherspoons

6. The Five Bells

7. The Old Justice

The Old Justice is a historic London pub tucked away on Bermondsey Wall East, right by the Thames. This Grade II-listed boozer dates back to 1933 and has kept its neo-Tudor interior, with a past that includes appearances in Paul McCartney’s ‘No More Lonely Nights’ video. It’s also a good-value spot for a Guinness, making it a worthwhile stop for a cheap pint with tons of history thrown in.

8. The Old Ale Emporium

The Old Ale Emporium is a small corner pub with a mix of students and local regulars, and a recent renovation has given it a warmer feel. Inside, you’ll find wood panelling, comfy furniture, quirky celebrity memorabilia, and a jukebox stacked with 5,000 songs for a boogie. There's also outdoor seating with a covered heated smoking area out back.

9. The Nags Head

A proper Peckham local, The Nags Head is a fun, sports-loving pub on Rye Lane where you’ll find cheap drinks, plenty of screens showing everything from football to F1, and a late-night crowd. There’s usually something going on, with live music and pop-up food from Yard Sale Pizza available for collection or delivery.

10. O'Briens

  • Pint price: £3.80 before 5pm and £4.80 after 5pm on Fridays

O'Briens on Uxbridge Road feels like a real old-school Irish pub, with wooden bars, familiar regulars and a no-frills approach to food and drink, including Irish stews and fish and chips on the menu. Despite its unfussy approach, there’s a killer pint deal on Fridays, with Guinness costing less than a fiver. It’s exceedingly rare to get a pint under £5 these days, let alone under £4, so if you're looking for the best deals in the city, you'll find it here.
