London’s BT Tower May Become A Hotel With A Pool In The Sky

New plans could transform the BT Tower into a luxury hotel with a rooftop pool.

One of London’s most recognisable landmarks could soon look very different. The iconic BT Tower may be heading for an even more dramatic reinvention, with plans emerging to turn the former telecoms hub into a luxury hotel complete with a rooftop pool.

If the plans go ahead, the BT Tower could become one of the most unique hotels in London.

Is The BT Tower Becoming A Hotel?

Under the new plans, the BT Tower would be turned into a hotel, mixing its recognisable structure with a more modern interior design. Standouts from the proposed plans include:

  • Public access to the top of the tower for the first time in decades

  • A new public square at ground level

  • Shops and restaurants within the podium buildings

  • Potential restoration of the tower’s former revolving restaurant

  • A rooftop swimming pool overlooking Central London

Even once approved, the changes won’t happen overnight, as BT is expected to keep removing telecoms equipment from the building until around 2030.

Once it’s finished, the tower should become one of London’s more unique hotel stays, bringing together heritage, architecture, and some seriously impressive skyline views.

Right now, the developer is running public consultations, giving Londoners a chance to view early proposals and provide feedback before plans move ahead.

Is The BT Tower Getting A Rooftop Pool?

One of the most talked about elements of the proposal is a rooftop swimming pool at the top of the BT Tower.

If approved, you could be swimming 177 metres above ground, with panoramic views stretching across London. The idea would add to a growing trend of rooftop swimming spots in the city, but this one would stand out as one of the highest - and arguably most impressive.

What Is The History Behind The BT Tower?

The BT Tower has been part of London's identity since the 1960s.

It originally opened in 1965 as the Post Office Tower and quickly became one of the most important telecoms structures in the country. At one point, it was even the tallest building in London.

It later became famous for its revolving restaurant on the 34th floor, which offered panoramic views of the city. The restaurant closed in 1980, but the building has remained a key part of London’s skyline for decades.

The tower was sold in 2024, and the £275 million redevelopment project has been in the works ever since.
