~ About Kevina Marcelline ~
Kevina Marcelline is a London-based fashion stylist born and raised in Indonesia. She is currently undertaking her final year degree in Fashion Styling and Production at UAL: London College of Fashion. She is very passionate in creating fashion imagery through collaborating with fashion designers and other creatives. She adores multi-cultures, unique and radical aesthetic. Kevina strives to deliver innovative ideas on every project she contributes in.
As part of her final degree project, she is exploring multiple platforms of art-making in this modern era, in which Salty Studio represents food as one of the many art forms. Inspired by the woven fabrics made in Prai Ijing village through Salty Studio is creating an edible experience.
Prai Ijing village is a small area located above a hill, 20 minutes from the Wakaibubak city. For centuries, this village has been surrounded by a multitude of Ambarella trees. ‘Prai’ itself means village and ‘Ijing’ means Ambarella fruit. The village consists mainly of huts made out of hay, where the inhabitants still live in now.
One of the main artisan tradition for Sumbanese women is hand weaving fabrics with colourful patterns. As with many villages in the area, women and teenage girls can be seen weaving on the backstrap loom in front of their house.
Kevina will produce a magazine entitled ARTI (\’ärt • te\) Magazine in April 2019 as the final piece of her degree project. ARTI means Art + I. The word is driven from an idea that art could be transferred from one culture to another in various ways, through artists that interpret this in their own way. The word ‘Arti’ itself in Bahasa Indonesian, translates to ‘meaning or senses’.
ARTI magazine is about a celebration of art-making. It will consist of a series of imagery, showcasing the way art is transformed and applied in multiple media platforms. The imagery will highlight the overlooked “moments” in fashion and the creation of art. Each featured image in the magazine will correspond to the handwoven fabric from Prai Ijing village.
Photos from this event will be featured in the magazine.
