Latinos in London Entertainment is back and celebrating Spring with a new wave of Latin music. This time they're joining forces between Latin America & Spain for a special session of RUMBA FREESTYLE! - blending together Latin music and Spanish Rumba: a frenetic burst of sound and colour with the electronic vibes from Ibiza to the rocky guitars of Camden Town.

The night will be a fusion of live music performed by Dandaluz, playing rumba flamenca direct from Seville, Spain, with a Latin flavour. Special guest David Cava, direct from Barcelona, will take the stage for a special acoustic show mixing popular urban rhythms. The live shows will create a fusion between Rumba flamenca, latin music and rock ‘n’ roll.

On the decks Carlitos Nino from (Latinos In London / Arriba La Cumbia) + special guests, selecting a wide range of musical styles fused with global & Latin rhythms.

+ Latin American street food with a twist, available in the upstairs Forge Cantina.

DAVID CAVA

BACKGROUND:

Catalan gypsies develop a new way of playing flamenco guitar known as the "ventilador", a technique that combines the strumming of guitar strings whilst the palms of the hand drum the rhythm on the body of the guitar. The guitar, the handclaps and certain songs originating from the Caribbean gave birth to this new style. In the 1970s a new generation of gypsy rumba emerged, as the scene was enriched with a variety of styles, and keyboards, electric guitars, funky basslines and wind sections appear.

However, its true value is how the essence of these songs was used to build a new style. Spanish flamenco guitar player Paco de Lucía brought to Spain a cajón formerly owned by Peruvian percussionist Caitro Soto in 1977 with the purpose of using it as a more reliable rhythmic base in Flamenco. The cajón is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument since the late 18th century.
