The Gentle Good is the stage name of Cardiff based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gareth Bonello. Influenced by the traditional music and folklore of Wales along with a myriad of sources from further afield, Gareth creates timeless folk music in both English and Welsh.

Best known for his intricate guitar playing and haunting vocals, Gareth has enchanted audiences all over the world; from top UK festivals such as Glastonbury and The Green Man to car parks and bars in Texas to the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. International collaboration is a strong feature of Gareth’s work and he has written and performed with artists on all continents bar Antarctica.

The Gentle Good have released several critically acclaimed albums including ‘Tethered for the Storm’ (2011) and ‘Y Bardd Anfarwol’ (The Immortal Bard, 2013) both of which were nominated for the Welsh Music Prize. Written during a two month residency in Chengdu, Southern China, the album is a collaboration with traditional Chinese musicians and tells the story of the famous Chinese poet Li Bai. It was awarded the Welsh language album of the year award in 2014 and was the inspiration behind an award winning play; ‘Rhith Gân’, which was staged at the National Eisteddfod in 2016.

The latest release ‘Ruins/Adfeilion’ stays closer to home and explores themes of social justice and identity at the start of the 21st Century. Mainly recorded live over a 5 day period in January 2016, the record is graced with performances from some of the finest musicians in Wales and includes beautiful string arrangements by acclaimed composer Seb Goldfinch.
