We are delighted to present a very special night of music with heavy hitters Al Dobson Jr & Okvsho, sharing decks across the night from 10:00 pm-3 am on Friday 27th January!
We at Ninety One have long been admirers of Al Dobson Jr, going right back to his debut split single with Tenderlonious on 22a, and his full-length debut album Rye Lane Vol’s I & II, a seminal release on Rhythm Section. This debut album went from obscure debut to cult classic in a flash, propelling the artist and the label onto the international platform. These releases quickly established Al as one of UK's most talented, enigmatic producers, with major global tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Theo Parrish, Dego, Alex Nut, and Osunlade being early adopters of his records. Dobson Jr brings the same innovation, creativity and mystique to his DJ sets as he does his production, blending obscure yet dance-floor friendly grooves, unreleased dubplates, and classic jazz & funk that keeps the crowd moving and guessing.
It's a real pleasure to welcome back Christoph & Georg of Okvsho, following one of the best nights we enjoyed at Ninety One in 2022, when they played their debut UK show to a packed Living Room. This time around they swap their weaponry from instruments for turntables, with a whopping 4 hour set of relentless grooves. The two brothers from Zurich, Switzerland are amongst the most promising prospects of upcoming musicians in Europe, gaining attention from a wider audience through placements in Bandcamp Weekly, NTS Radio and more.
Okvsho's music is mostly inspired by the UK Jazz Scene of the past 10 years and their origins in beatmaking and house/electronic music grouping improvisation, spontaneity, and jazz as dance music - From which Al Dobson Jr has been a key influence. It was a no-brainer bringing Okvsho back to the Living Room, and lining them up alongside Al Dobson Jr sets up a rare pairing of two heavy hitters on the European scene.
