Nestled in the historic Old Town and with a name like Luckenbooths, you know this place is gonna be a celebration of all things Scottish. This new addition to the Royal Mile champions the country’s finest local produce, dishing up traditional grub with quirky twists. And to top it all off? It has an absolute stunner of an outdoor terrace that boasts fantastic views of some of Edinburgh’s most famous landmarks. Need we say more?

The latest opening from The Bon Vivant Group, the guys that brought us many of Edinburgh's best venues such as The Devil's Advocate, has taken its title from the lock-up booths that used to spill into the area's cobbled streets. Taking their place, this new multi-level bar and restaurant can be found on the ground floor of the Cheval Old Town Chambers.

Luckenbooth's decor gives a nod to the neighbourhood's history by mixing old with new, featuring tall ceilings and wooden wine cabinets, as well as modern light fixtures and contemporary furnishings. It's bright, airy and pretty darn stylish. In homage to its predecessors, the place will also have a little shop selling all kinds of goods from some of the country's best independent businesses.

Led by head chef Emma Clark-Szabo, the kitchen uses seasonal ingredients from local suppliers, serving up brunch in the early morning all the way through to dinner. Highlights include their Campbell's haggis and beef shin bonbons, plus the Moving Mountains vegan burger, which is topped with scorched feta and jalapeño mayo. And keeping with the Scottish theme, the bar is well-stocked with an incredibly extensive selection of fine whiskies, as well as Champers, wine and beers.
