Whether you're recovering from a late night out or just run down after an exhausting week of work, Sundays are a time for relaxation. And what better way is there to start off the day than with a big breakfast? There are many things Albert's Schloss in Birmingham is known for – German beers, quirky shows and boogieing on the benches – but you rarely hear about the food, so I was intrigued to find out more.

Albert's Schloss' drinks menu in Birmingham features liveners that are sure to kickstart your morning with a bang.

Strolling around a very grey and gloomy Birmingham town centre, nothing seemed more inviting than the cosy-looking corner building at the edge of Chamberlain Square. Even just by peeking through the floor-to-ceiling windows, you could feel the warmth of the roaring fire, and as soon as we stepped inside, this welcoming vibe completely enveloped us. Lit up by the mellow bulbs from industrial chandeliers and decked out with wooden panels, the unique alpine theme of the restaurant really shone through and transported us to a cosy Bavarian cabin.

Although the table we were seated at had an infuriating wobble, we had a lovely view of the entire venue and were able to soak up the atmosphere. To start, we ordered a classic bloody mary (£8) and a fresh lemonade (£4), which were both pretty refreshing, despite taking a little while to arrive. In contrast to this, our main meals arrived much quicker than we anticipated, which we were thankful for, given our hunger.

The Bavarian equivalent of a full English, the cook haus (£9.50) was everything we had hoped for and more. The smoked back bacon, Burford brown egg, roasted portobello mushroom, baked beans, tomato and pain de mie toast were delish - but the stars of the show definitely had to be the herby Bratwurst sausage and crispy hash brown. Although our favourite part of the entire experience was certainly the pastries; my red velvet Danish (£4) was generously filled with a silky custard, and my friend’s raspberry croissant (£4) had a nice tangy compote between its flaky layers.

It's safe to say that we left completely stuffed and fuelled for the rest of our Sunday leisure. Our waitress Erin was extremely attentive and her cheery service brightened up our day. So if you are looking for a brilliant breakfast, then I can only recommend heading over to Albert's Schloss for its Bavarian takes on classic dishes, as well as freshly baked pastries and morning cocktails.
