Course Synopsis

Wine Tasting: Taste and describe wines using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting Food and Wine Matching: A guide to the key considerations when matching food & wine successfully.

Wine Service and Storage: Learn the correct way to store and serve wine & recognise common faults found in wines.

Labelling: Learn how to decode & understand labels.

Factors influencing the Style of Wine: Study the factors influencing the style, quality & price of wine in the vineyard & winery. 

Grape Varieties: Learn about the styles of wines produced by the key international & regionally important grape varieties.

Key White grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling. Other white varieties: Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Muscadet, Pinot Gris/Grigio, Semillon, Torrontes, Trebbiano and Verdicchio.

Key Black grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz. Other red varieties: Barbera, Carmenere, Gamay, Malbec, Montepulciano, Nebbiolo, Pinotage, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Tempranillo & Zinfandel.

Key Wine-Producing regions of the World: Learn about the main styles of wines from the key wine-producing regions. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, USA, Argentina, Chile, Austrailia, New Zealand & South Africa.

Number of Wines Tasted: 30-35 wines will be tasted as part of the course. 

Study Materials: Students will receive an Intermediate course study pack, consisting of the course book (a comprehensive guide to the wines of the world), a study guide (complete with maps, example questions, and forms for your own tasting notes) and laminated tasting card. 

Study Materials available; East London Wine School has a comprehensive library of mock papers for examination practice. 

Duration of course: up to 16 hours.

Recommended Private Study: 12 hours additional private study is recommended for this course.

Examination: 50 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 1 hour. A mark of 55% required to pass.

Certification: All students who pass will be issued with a certificate suitable for framing and a lapel pin.

Monday 14th October Session 1 - Tasting Technique, Grape growing & Winemaking.

Monday 21st October Session 2 - Grape varieties

Monday 28th October Session 3 - Sparkling & Sweet wines, Fortified Wines plus 1-hour Exam.

2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.
9. If this ticket is re-sold or transferred for profit or commercial gain by anyone other than the promoter, venue management, DesignMyNight or one of their authorised sub-agents, it will become voidable and the holder may be
refused entry to or ejected from the venue.
