The third film we’re screening as part of Black History Month is 42. Based on the true story of Jackie Robinson and starring the late Chadwick Boseman as the title character. In 1946, Branch Rickey played by Harrison Ford, the legendary manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, defies major baseball’s notorious colour barrier by signing Jackie Robinson. This heroic act puts both Rickey and Robinson in the firing line of the public, the press and other players. Although he faces racism from all sides, Robinson demonstrates true courage and restraint by not reacting and lets his undeniable talent silence the critics for him making him one of the greatest of all time.
