Quotes: ‘……..he brought the house down with a barnstorming set, which made the audience laugh like familiar friends.’ – The Guardian
Adam Bloom was 18 months old when his parents nicknamed him The Voice. When he was 10, he told them he was going to be a comedian. By the age of 23, he was.
Two years later, he appeared on the BBC TV’s The Stand Up Show, had starred alongside Red Dwarf’s Norman Lovett in Asylum and featured in a six part comedy drama on the Paramount Comedy Channel.
In 1997 he performed stand-up slots on The Comedy Network (Paramount Channel) All Over The Shop (BBC TV), and Live At Jongleurs 2 and 4 (UK Gold). He also appeared on Ch5’s Bring Me The Head Of Light Entertainment.
Adam performed his first sell-out solo show at the 1996 Edinburgh Festival, quickly followed by the simply titled Adam Bloom Show in 1997. In July 1998 Adam appeared at the Montreal Comedy Festival, performing his routine as part of the Britcom Show, and followed this with a return to Edinburgh.
1998 rates as one of Adam’s most successful Edinburgh Festival to date, as not only was he one of the comics featured on Edinburgh or Bust for Ch4, but he also won the Polygram Punter Comedy Award’ for his show!
No stranger to awards during this year. Adam also won the Time Out Award for Best Stand-up.
1998 saw TV appearances in shows such as BBC TV’s The Stand-up Show, on UK Play, as Berk a maniac TV presenter on The Young Persons Guide to Becoming a Rock Star, he appeared on Stop The World (BBC) and was a guest on The Jack Docherty Show on Ch5.
This year Adam returned as a guest on The Jack Docherty Show and also featured on Never Mind The Buzzcocks on BBC. 1999 proved to be another blooming great year for Adam, marking his debut at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. His stand-up received an extremely warm reception and rave reviews in the press.
Other appearances in 1999 included the Dutch TV show The Comedy Factory and the Kilkenny Comedy Festival. Adam made a welcome return to the summer’s Edinburgh Festival and his own television special Adam Bloom Beyond a Joke was televised as part of Ch4’s Comedy Lab series. He recorded another series as one of the team captains on the successful comedy quiz Bring Me The Head Of Light Entertainment on Ch5, has recently enjoyed a very successful set with Sydney Comedy Festival, and appeared as a roving stand up for SKY TV’s Apocalypse Tube, which was broadcast as part of Ch4’s millennium night celebrations.
