Enjoy a host of accessible activities to stimulate the senses, inspired by the rich history of the Maison Dieu, from arts and crafts, to touch tours, storytelling and multi-sensory engagement.
With an opportunity to meet disability support groups from across East Kent.
Including live music and a special book launch by SEND author educator and access campaigner Sam Bowen.
A free, accessible, booking required event that is open to all but particularly aimed at people with disabilities.
The Sense-sational Story of the Maison Dieu is a two-centre visit, run in partnership with the nearby Riverside Centre (200 metres away on level footpaths). It is an accessible venue with accessible toilets. All visitors are actively encouraged to visit the information stands and take part in the art activities here before or after they have visited the Maison Dieu.
Maison Dieu Ambassador volunteers are available to take people across, providing fascinating information on the way about the exterior of the Maison Dieu and the River Dour.
This event is advance booking
only. Please book online, via
telephone 01304 201200 at or at the Maison Dieu reception
desk.
Tickets are allocated for
specific timeslots as below. It's important you
exit the building at the end of your allocated time slot, so other
guests are able to begin their visit on time. Thank
you!
10:45 to 12:00
Including tea dances and seated dance activities in the Connaught Hall.
12:15 to 13:30
Including Sam Bowen's book launch in the Connaught Hall.
13:45 to 15:00
Including Chinese dancing, Bollywood and piano and orchestral music in the Connaught Hall.
Due to the fact that all activities are on the first floor level in the Maison Dieu, for safety reasons there can only be a maximum of 10 people at any one time in the building who need support to evacuate the building. Please select 'Accessibility support ticket' at the booking stage.
Due to this restriction in numbers, anyone who is unable to book a ticket on the day, will be offered a free guided Maison Dieu visit at a later date, with refreshments and hands-on activities. Please contact kathryn.tuck@dover.gov.uk
Created in partnership with the Dover District Disabilities Association and local disability groups.
