England to face Brazil and Belgium in Wembley friendlies as Gareth Southgate fine-tunes team for Euro 2024

UPDATED 06/11/2023 AT 14:25 GMT

England’s men will step up their preparations for Euro 2024 with friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley on March 23 and March 26 respectively. England and Brazil last met in November 2017, when Gareth Southgate’s side played out a goalless draw with the South American giants. England achieved qualification for next summer’s Euros in Germany with two matches to spare.

England will welcome Brazil and Belgium to Wembley Stadium in March as Gareth Southgate's side fine-tune their preparations for Euro 2024.
The matches will be useful preparation for all parties, with England and Belgium fine-tuning their squads ahead of Euro 2024 and Brazil looking forward to the Copa America next summer.
"I am happy to have two strong matches in March as we build towards the Euro finals. It is important we take every opportunity to test ourselves against top opposition," said Southgate.

"Before then, we have our last qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia coming up. Getting two positive results is essential if we are to make sure of being top seeds in the Euro draw next month.
"We can’t afford to think the job is done as there is still work to do, while every second for us together in camp counts if we are to give ourselves the best chance of success next summer."
England face Brazil on March 23 before playing Belgium on March 26.
England and Brazil last faced each other in a men’s international in November 2017, in what was a largely forgettable 0-0 draw. Of the players who lined up in that match for England, only Marcus Rashford, John Stones, Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker remain regulars, while Neymar and Gabriel Jesus featured for the visitors.
The occasion will give the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham a chance to play against Brazil for the first time.

England lost twice to Belgium at the 2018 World Cup - first in the group stage, then in the third-place play-off - but have since become a real force in international football. They also met in the 2020 Nations League, with both sides chalking up a win across the two meetings.
Southgate's side have already qualified for Euro 2024 with two matches remaining.
Those two games are against Malta and North Macedonia on November 17 and 20 respectively.
