Shock Horror is an alternative rock band. Melding
together frenetic, hooky melody with brooding, down-tuned
atmosphere, the four-piece are building a reputation that walks the
line between catchiness and experimentation.
The group has it roots in Bristol, forming in 2020
with an altered lineup- notably featuring long time artistic
collaborator Dom Waters on guitar. Singer/guitarist Charlie Burnham
was soon joined by close friends Joel Garden and Dan Greer, as
Shock Horror began to bloom into the entity it now is. After moving
back from university, Josh Simmons entered the fray on synth and
percussion, adding extra textures and depth to the live sound. With
this multi-skilled quartet of instrumentalists and songwriters,
band members are now often seen swapping roles and equipment to
suit different songs.
Artistic influence on Shock Horror has come from
all angles in a melting pot of tastes, but geography and
environment has been a consistent factor. This includes Bristolian
trip hop legends Massive Attack and Portishead, as well as Oxford
titans Radiohead, Foals and the Thames Valley 90s shoegaze scene.
Charlie, Joel, Josh and Dan also remain avid gig-goers, inspired by
contemporary icons like Squid, Jockstrap and Fontaines
DC.
Their short career is already littered with
highlights: a glowing review from Idles frontman Joe Talbot at The
Louisiana; Headlining a sell-out Halloween show at The Crown in
Bristol; Support slots with some of the hottest bands such as,
Premium Leisure, Blue Bendy & The Clockworks; recording singles
"Nothing New, Nothing Real" and "Anxiety" at legendary local studio
Safehouse with Mike Bannard; featuring on Dave Gilyeat's BBC
Introducing Oxford show; recently appearing on live performance
podcast 'Shed Sessions' to play unreleased material.
