What they say:

Aster offers a Nordic dining experience in Victoria's renovated dining quarter. Set across two floors, the venue features both a cafe with a deli and a restaurant. The cafe will serve more casual food, such as traditional cinnamon pastries or open sandwiches. The restaurant will tackle Nordic delicacies, including traditional dishes such as meatballs a la Laindstrom with capers and beets. There's a food store to purchase ingredients and an outside terrace for al fresco dining in the hotter season.

What we say:

Nordic cuisine is having something of a renaissance at the moment and it's venues like Aster that make us glad it's happening. The two floor approach means it has dual purpose as a chilled out cafe for a casual bite of food, such as their open sandwiches with ingredients like cured salmon and pickled herring; meanwhile, the upstairs menu focuses on refined dishes featuring Nordic delicacies, like juniper-smoked turbot with leeks. While they've got a terrace for summer, the winter months can be battled the old-fashion Nordic way: their fish roe and blini tasting menu that arrives with a selection of vodka and aquavit pairings.
