The music was awful.Sounded like whales mating calls.Too loud and the quality didn't merit the volume..We had difficulty conversing and even the staff had difficulty I'm taking our order. Het some good jazz or something and play at a sensible level. We thought it was designed to make you eat up and leave so as to increase turnover!! The place is v good the staff excellent realy friendly and helpful All spoiled by naff music badly presented.I'm happy not to be anonymous. The more people that stand up to be counted the sooner the place will improve!! visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 21 Oct 2017

Tried to get a walk in table at 7pm on Wednesday night but we were told by the lady at front of house that there was nothing until 9pm!! Had a drink outside in the square and the guy at the bar said there should be tables... had to go online on my phone and was able to book at table at 7.30pm. It would be nice to know why we were not offered a table by the lady at Front of House? Food and drinks were great as usual but this trip was soured by the experience of trying to get a table in the first place. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 18 Oct 2017

Could have been brilliant - let down by staff who don't care and stone cold food! We had booked on the recommendation of a friend, so were hoping for good things, but it was a bit of a let down. After 45 minutes I gave up and went to find a waiter to take our order. That was our experience with the wait staff the whole night, we were constantly having to get up and find waiters to order even drinks. The food would have been really nice, but all of it was cold, like it had been sitting around on hot plates for ages, and we left a lot of it because it was just cold and soggy and gross. One of our party mentioned it to a waiter & he didn't care at all. The waiters had no idea who had ordered what, and some of it came later than the rest, and we had to ask for steak knives for the steak (it's a steak & burger restaurant). All in all it wasn't a great night, and it was such a shame, because the starters we got were actually hot and those were delicious! I thought maybe we just got a bad night, so when I was asked to leave a review I emailed the restaurant to let them know about our experience before I posted - thought they might have an explanation like not enough staff on that night or something. But they never responded. Sent them a follow up and still no response, so the review is going up! There are loads of lovely restaurants in london where the staff give enough of a sh#t to bring you a drink, get your food to you when is still warm & write you back if you have the courtesy to let them know you had a bad experience- do yourself a favour and go to one of those. Give this one a miss! visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 07 Oct 2017

I hired out the Gun Room for my birthday at the weekend. Really good fun and a great group activity - a special thanks to Alex our host, who conducted proceedings immaculately. We then headed upstairs for dinner in the restaurant, which was again, top notch - the Veni moo burger in particular was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend this place. Thanks for a lovely evening guys! Oz visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 14 Oct 2017

The food was superb and the service very good and rather professional. But the overall organisation was one heck of a mess. First they told me over the phone that both restaurants were fully booked for the night. We still showed up and more than half of the tables were totally empty for the entire 2.5hrs we were there. But the main issue was the manager's approach which we found highly unprofessional, borderline rude! The young waitress decided to offer us a more expensive wine for the price of a cheaper bottle "sold out"; the good old trick! Which is the thing to do in such a case and she really di a great job. But the manager did not seem overly happy with the whole situation, and frankly, this is something he should have dealt with in private! Not in front of customers. So, in a nutshell, nothing very bad as the food was fantastic, but they need to sort out their mess if they want to compete (and succeed) against the likes of (highly professional) Hawksmore. What can I say? I'd never been before and booked it as a birthday meal for my brother. It was fantastic. The food was fabulous, all the flavours well thought out and presented beautifully. Their Scottish takes on classic cocktails are well balanced and dangerously drinkable! And the staff are friendly, attentive (but don't fall into the trap of being too attentive) and really helpful with tricky dishes like the roasted bone marrow! I can't speak for busy nights, but it was the perfect Monday night distraction. Thank you! visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 16 Oct 2017

Scottish breakfast very dry and pretty average... wasn't able to finish it. Could do with something moist like beans or tomatoes. Also first person to serve us got annoyed as he had to write down our voucher number. The food was truly excellent, but the service was very slow. We were one of the first tables to arrive and I believe they didn't assign any single waiter/waitress to our table, this meant every time we had to try to catch someone for attention, and our drink orders then took forever to arrive. Whenever someone did appear at our table they were great, they just needed to have someone assigned like all the other tables had. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 14 Oct 2017

Delicious lunch at Mac & Wild on friday. Lovely mackerel pate, perfectly cooked salmon fillet, haggis 'pops' and mussels. Great menu for meaters and non-meaters alike. Service was great and staff helpful and charming. Don't normally like music in restaurants, but Mac & Wild play really cool jazz/blues - ie real music - and not so loud that you can't hear yourselves think. I enjoyed the meal and drinks. Though the haggis pops we'd ordered didn't arrive, which was fine as it was taken off the bill. Though I'm not sure the Scottish breakfast I'd ordered had everything the menu said it should. But maybe this was due to running out of produce, though I wasn't made aware of this visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 07 Oct 2017

The food was very good- in theory. Due to the shockingly slow and poor level of service the burger was served cold, the sparking wine was flat, we were sat down for 15 minutes before the waiter came over to welcome us- it took one hour from arriving until the starters appeared. This was my second visit- the first time it was great, it was a quiet Tuesday night, on a busy Saturday they really struggled to deliver anything other than mediocre. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 07 Oct 2017

Never disappoints. First time to the Devonshire Sq restaurant, and like it’s Fitzrovia branch the food and service is a pleasure. The Wild Grouse w/ Mashed Potato and Haggis Crumb was fantastic and the Skirt Steak is always a winner. The service was awful. Food was ok. Emailed and asked a number of times about a birthday surprise. No acknowledgement. Serving mains without even clearing away the starters. Poor service and average food. Chateau Briauande was very fatty and some food was cold on arrival. Service was awful. Complained to staff and got a free round of drinks. Wow ! The food was lovely but the service was appalling. Our food order was served wrong and we had to ask for it to be corrected twice. Mac and Wild is a lovely spot. The food is interesting and pretty good value however the service really lets it down. It’s generally pretty friendly but just slow, and lackadaisical. I don’t like being bothered by waiters every five minutes asking if everything is ok but a little bit of attention would be nice. We were in a group and the waitress got one of our mains wrong and insisted it was our fault. To be fair they did take that order off the bill. The place wasn’t full on a Friday lunchtime and given the quality of the food and the location it should be packed. Please sort it out. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 29 Sep 2017

Dinner pretty good, service a little dismissive and a bit pricy for the quality. Great surroundings and location. Relevant to the review, but NOT part of mac and wild is the whisky bar downstairs. Terribly slow service for just pouring a dram (15 mins for 4 whiskies in a quiet bar is inexcusable), will not go back despite some flavourful whisky. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 29 Sep 2017

This was my first visit and it was a mixed bag but generally good and i'd go back. The burger was amazing, and the wildnerness chips were INCREDIBLE! Really lovely, meaty rich gravy. The starters we had were more mediocre - the haggis pops were really tasty but just could have been hot, they were only warm. nad the bone marrow i didn't enjoy as a bit gloopy but that could just be my tastes. drinks were delicious but the only annoying thing was that the staff didn't do check backs at either course. I have managed a restaurant and notice even more the importance of check backs to ask how everything is - especially as we did actually need something. No one took our initial drinks order fro so long i had to get up and ask at the till for a bottle of wine. Note to staff just to try and make eye contact a bit more as it was REALLY hard trying to get anyone's attention. All of the staff were delightful and super friendly and nice when they served us though. x visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 27 Sep 2017

Food was fantastic. The two male waiters were beyond fantastic. The environment and table were fantastic. The only thing preventing it from being five-star was the rather difficult waitress at the beginning who tried to pass the cost of the complementary gin tasting on to our party when we decided that it would cut the bottomless brunch short by too much to fit it in. We did very much want to do the gin tasting as well but it didn't work out. Unfortunately the service at that point was quite difficult and inflexible. I would have expected a politer response from said waitress who made it very difficult. Thankfully the rest of our experience was superb given the delicious food and good natured waiters serving us! visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 16 Sep 2017

We celebrated my husbands 30th birthday at mac and wild and the whole meal was fantastic start to finish. The food was incredible, and our waitress went above and beyond, sorting out the arrival of a cake we'd brought as well as complimentary whiskey for the birthday boy and constantly checking in - we were very well looked after and didn't have to wait for anything we asked for. I have to say I took my brother to Mac as a farewell before he bounced off to uni. The food to start was just sublime. It was really wonderful. The atmosphere with the ambient lighting only added to the experience. Furthermore the pair of us had the veni moo burger, no we consider ourselves burger conissors and have both agreed it was the best burger we've had to date. Everything thing about it was perfectly inbalance, without one ingredient overpowering the other. However the real stand out aspect of the meal was the service by Alexsandro (I hope I've spelled his name correctly) He was just amazing and took time to explain to us a bit about the wiskey and why they were paired with our dishes. I've been to Mishlen star establishments and his service was on par if not better than theirs. He is a true credit to the company and if there are any rewards for staff I'd greatly appreciate you nominating him for one of the candidates. Thank you Mac for the fantastic service. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 06 Sep 2017

Food was excellent but service was shockingly bad from the outset. Drinks were ordered but never came despite high staffing levels and a bored looking barman. Repeated order again and eventually came. One of the weirdest tastings of wine that I have ever experienced with a theatrical swill around the glass - I was worried it would go over my shirt) and presenting glass at a weird angle. Where the hell did he learn that ?!? Extraordinary. Waiter saying the right thing but just not bringing what we ordered. It got a lot better when the Manager took over. So in short, hire different waiting staff or train them visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 07 Sep 2017

Table of 3 arrive 30 minutes early and we were able to be seated, which was great. We had multiple waiters serve our table, so it was difficult to know who to ask for more water, wine, starters, etc. Our wine waiter was great, initially. After he delivered our wine and poured the first glasses, we did not hear from him again. our food was delivered - and then we did not hear from any waiter again. When food was finished, they took away the trays as and when, and did not ask how the food had been or if we needed more water or wine - as both had been finished. We would have stayed for another bottle of wine, but we were left sitting at the table for 15 minutes with no one to call upon. So when we finally flagged a waiter down, we asked for the bill. unfortunately we had to request for the 12% service charge to be taken off. In terms of the food - we had the £15 Timeout offer for a burger, fries and a glass of Prosecco. The food was enjoyable, and plates were empty. But I probably won't be returning. visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 06 Sep 2017

Chose restaurant after an internet search for somewhere different for dinner with a client I'd not met. Wanted a place more social than business and got that. Great location. Food was great but ended up slightly more expensive than expected at £200 for 3, that included one round of beers and a bottle of wine. Restaurant is busy and boisterous. A little dark but pleasant. Outside bar in covered square looked promising but put off by plastic beer glasses. Will go again but be more careful on menu visited Mac & Wild Devonshire Square on 06 Sep 2017
