It’s a little bit slower than we’d like, but pubs are finally coming around to the fact that animal-free meals are a priority for more and more of their customers. Gone are the days of 20 meat dishes and a vegetable lasagne. We’re very pleased to see another convert to the vegan ways, with hip Leytonsone boozer The Birds giving a vegan focus to their menu from Thursday 5th July. There are still meat dishes on the menu for your less enlightened mates, but they are more limited than the vegan ones. Can you imagine that reversal being the case a few years ago?
On launch night they are going to have a bit of a party. There’ll be vegan beer and wine, plus a three course taster menu from head chef Kiefer Turner. You can expect chickenish popcorn, truffle mac’n’Cheese (with fake bacon and chives) and a showcase for all things seitan. And while they are doing the washing up you can enjoy some live music. Nights out in Leytonstone just got a lot less hungry.

5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.
9. If this ticket is re-sold or transferred for profit or commercial gain by anyone other than the promoter, venue management, DesignMyNight or one of their authorised sub-agents, it will become voidable and the holder may be
