Description

Following on from the success of his Soho Peruvian venture, Ceviche, Martin Morales took to the streets of Shoreditch for his next empanada escapade with Andina.

Styled around a traditional 'picanterias' - a Peruvian family run restaurant serving locals from breakfast through 'til dinner - Andina is a cool community spirited venue where food runs hot and atmosphere runs high. From a main restaurant area that boasts traditional Peruvian cuisine and a 'Games Room' reserved for private dining and cookery classes to a Chicha bar, Andina blends traditional grub with the sound of Peruvian funk and cocktail glasses clinking.

Whilst Peruvian beer and cocktails flow freely from the downstairs Pisco and Chicha bar, it's the restaurant in which Andina cultivates its foodie flair. Serving everything from beef carpaccio to ceviche with pour-your-own tiger's milk, Andina keeps to traditional dishes inspired by the Andes, serving from breakfast to dinner.

It was a dinner with colleagues. The cocktails created the right mood and the food did the rest. For some of my colleagues it was the most surprising food of their lives. Everyone loved it. Visited Andina on 2018-04-19

Well it was an interesting one! Ordered 6 dishes. 2 arrived and 1 hour 15 mins later nothing else had arrived. We queried this and were told that the dishes come once they are ready and they won't bring other dishes if you have some on the table. Looking around this was certainly not the case for other tables! Kept on asking and after much investigation we were told that the ticket hadn't been put through to the kitchen! However, everything was immediately rectified and they did absolute wonders. Food was pushed through super quickly. Everything utterly delicious. Then we discovered when the bill arrived they only charged us for the 2 x dishes at the start. Redeemed by great service eventually. Hasn't put me off would definitely go back. Thanks :) Visited Andina on 2018-04-15

Had big expectations as looks and sounds amazing, unfortunately for me it didn’t live up to these, food was cold and bland, kept trying to get the attention of one of the waiting staff but gave up in the end, sadly no I wouldn’t return or recommend Visited Andina on 2018-04-15

We really did find this quite a treat to visit Andina. The menu selection caters for all, the plates are presented beautifully and are a real taste sensation. I highly recommend the KARAY cocktail too. The magazine provided on the table was an interesting read and a nice touch to our experience. The staff are welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. My only downfall is that that one of our dishes was delivered to the wrong table, we had to follow up on the order and wait additional time for this to be prepared. Not the end of the world except that by this time we were rushed to move on. Visited Andina on 2018-04-14

We had booked for 21.00, had to wait for 30mins but overall the experience was really great. The waiters were really accomodating and professiona and the food was tasty. The food is great; the service manages to feel laid back whilst being reassuringly attentive. They are especially good at catering for dietary requirements. The only down side is that we came as a group of 8 and were coerced into ordering one of the set menus. It would be great to be able to order from the regular menu regardless of group size. Andina used to be my favourite Peruvian restaurant in London, and due to its popularity haven’t been in almost 2 years, in which was frequent client of ceviche, both in soho and old street (same group). Went to andina a few days ago and was very disappointed with the menu! It’s almost converted in a vegetarian menu, and the Peruvian is a much fainter inspiration than before. That being said, food is still quite good and very cool and relaxed ambiance! Visited Andina on 2018-04-02

Music Room was a nice private space and exactly what I wanted for the evening. One negative regarding the sharing dishes, they were provided per two people but the serving sizes were three portions per dish? I had made a booking for brunch at 13:00 for 3 people. When we arrived at the restaurant, we asked if we could change it to a table for 4 people as one more person was going to come. The responsible for bookings advised us that we should wait for 10 minutes at the bar until the table is ready. After 20 minutes and as obviously the responsible had forgotten us at the bar, another person came to ask us to move cause this place was reserved. I went and asked again the person responsible for the table settings if our table was ready and he replied that we have to wait. After 5 minutes two groups of 4 people came and they were directed to their table immediately. When I asked again why our table is not ready, the responsible said that we cannot get sat because we are only 2 of the 4. We finally sat 30 minutes later from the booking time when the 3rd person came. I could accept the fact that all people should come before we could sit if this was included in the booking confirmation (which wasn't) or if we were advised from the beginning instead of just waiting for 30 minutes standing at the bar. The food was ok, but not that great for all this hassle Visited Andina on 2018-03-24

Excellent, fresh and very tasty food as always. Four not five stars because charming and handsome though the waiter was he had not been trained properly (absolutely NOT his fault). He was therefore confused about what was on the lunch menu declaring that the things marked "lunch special" were most definitely not available only to discover that of course they were. It was lunchtime. And he didn't know what Yuca was (mind you, the waiter he then asked was equally blank. Never heard of it and swore it had never been on the Andina menu. I'm sure it was once but never mind). So FAB restaurant but be nicer to your staff - train them! Visited Andina on 2018-03-21

I saw Andina listed in a list of the best breakfasts in London, and I'm so glad I took a chance. The food was incredible -- different, interesting, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering a tad too much; the menu recommends 3 per person but 2 would definitely have sufficed. Also, the waiter brought us something that we didn't order and we ate it before realising that it wasn't one of the many dishes we'd selected! In general, the service could have used a little work; the waiter was very nice but didn't stop by very often (to be fair, the restaurant was quite bustling), and didn't do basic stuff like bring milk with our tea. But that was only a minor issue. It was nice to be somewhere so lively; the restaurant had a warm and welcoming ambience and the Andean music was great. I don't live in London but if I did I think I would revisit Andina regularly! Visited Andina on 2018-03-18

The menu was changed since I have last been there. I think it isn’t as good as the old one unfortunately. Also, one of the dishes was recommended by the waitress but turned out to be not so good in our opinion. We ended up having just one bite and leaving the rest aside. I actually expected not to be charged for it, as we told the waitress it wasn’t to our taste, but we were fully charged. A bit disappointed in general with the way this matter was dealt with and with the new menu. :( Visited Andina on 2018-03-18

Dishes were served a little cold. Still amazes me restaurants don’t serve hot dishes in pre warmed dishes. This always helps serve hot food. In all not too bad, would I go back maybe not. Good -delicious food as always, great cocktails and wine. Bad - We were offered a table in the middle of the ground floor space facing the kitchen, being a Saturday evening the restaurant was full of guests and staff. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Service was quick and good. The piscina was very good, a bit pricey. The good was also good but could be served in larger portions Visited Andina on 2018-02-24

Unfortunately we found a centipede in our kale bowl and management offered a 30% discount on the bill. We believe this is a very serious health hazard and should have been managed accordingly. Visited Andina on 2018-02-25

When we arrived our table was not ready and we had to wait in a crowded hallway for 10 minutes. Used to be less crowded/more special. Visited Andina on 2018-02-23

Food was either overcooked (octopus, beef) or just really bland, and generally overpriced - portions are quite small. The only good (although not outstanding) plate among the 7 we tried was the Classic ceviche. Service was alright. We left smelling greasy and feeling like we should have been spending our money somewhere else. Visited Andina on 2018-02-21

Fantastic food, staff and the decoration took me right back to Peru. I had the sweet potato pancakes which were amazing - the spiced chancaca honey and coconut whipped cream were a delicious addition and not too sweet/sickly. The smoothies and coffee were also excellent. My only disappointment was the Pisco sours - having had better in Cusco and another restaurant (Pisqu). Visited Andina on 2018-02-17

Having had a lovely brunch previously in Andina I was very disappointed by the dinner. Out of the 4 dishes picked, the sea bass crevice was good but the other three dishes lacked flavour. I was also disappointed with poor Pisco Sours. I won’t be going again. Visited Andina on 2018-02-17

Food was ok but nothing special I found the 2 ceviche we ordered a little plain and the chips we ordered were either half old portion and half new or they had been microwaved as ones on top to hot and ones at bottom stone cold. More a light lunch place than a meal I think. Staff were very good though Visited Andina on 2018-02-17

I was really looking forward to dinner at Andina as a Valentine’s Day surprise as I had a really great dinner here last year. I made the booking way in advance but unfortunately left slightly disappointed. The table we were sat at was very cold due to the draft from the door - perhaps they could look into this to keep guests comfortable in the future. We sat on the high chairs last time and so weren’t bothered by the draft. Visited Andina on 2018-02-15

The food was nice, the service was really bad. The waitress was rude, they kept removing the plates before we finished. We felt pressured to order in a rush and finish our stuff quickly. At all times it felt like they wanted us to finish and go. After less than 1h 15 min there they brought us the bill without us asking for it. I've been there before and it has never been like that. I hope it was something isolated. Visited Andina on 2018-02-15

Great food, lots of vegetarian options, great Chicha loved everything. Just the service was a bit slow we had to actively try to find the waitress/waiter when we wanted water/dessert menu/dessert/the bill/to pay the bill. otherwise very nice Visited Andina on 2018-02-14

Eratic service. We were served dishes we hadn't ordered. Pleasant but overrated and overpriced food. One of the dishes was inedible- the kale was smothered in a spicy sauce. We sent it back and nothing was said about it. The restaurant has nice interior design but the loud music made it impossible to have a normal conversation. Visited Andina on 2018-02-13

I do not like the restaurant where you make guests waiting for their table just to make them consume without the menu and charge them for the more expensive glass of wine when asking just for a glass while waiting. The food was really nice but the bill expensive ... Visited Andina on 2018-02-11

Really nice looking restaurant and well-located, the food is as with all the restaurants of the chain tiny, overpriced tapas. The staff are polite but very pushy with the time spent at the location, even though there were empty tables, Also, they pushed on us an extra dish and more expensive cocktails. Delicious food - especially the potato/corn gratin. Food looks very appealing and a great balanced mixed of flavors! However, I would not recommend the sea bass sashimi - fish was just ripped apart, very small amounts and fish was super firm and chewy - nothing to compare to a quality tuna sashimi at Japanese restaurants often for same or even less money. The food is an absolute delight, perfect flavours and perfect aesthetics, incredibly energising. A brilliant brunch. Customer service depends heavily on the waiter - some staff is kind and makes the experience wonderful, some are very blunt and not particularly accomodating. Overall good experience mostly thanks to the cuisine. Visited Andina on 2018-02-04

The most helpful & friendliest staff I have ever been waited on by. Great menu, wine list & the cocktails were perfect, as was the fillet steak. It was quite possible the most tender beef I have ever had, was melt in the mouth delicious. however, the pork was tough & overcooked but overall was a great experience & I will certainly be back. Last time I was there, they were serving octopus fillet stuffed with pork as a special dish. Sitting at the kitchen bar we could see how popular they were, literally making dozens. The waitress said being such a success , they'd probably be on the menu permanently but alas last week was my next visit and the octopus dish featured the tail and found it to be chewy and fatty feeling. Little disappointing. Apart from that, everything else was incredible! Visited Andina on 2018-02-02
