VERSES Poetry Night: Homecoming feat. Liv Wynter, Spliff Richard & Aicha Thérése
VERSES is back, bringing you your poetry and spoken word fix. April is a time of rebirth and we look to bring you one of our freshest exciting line ups! We will also be back in our spiritual home, Doña in Stoke Newington. We are excited to bring you the best poets from across the UK and this time is no different! Performing on the night, we have:
LIV WYNTER
Liv is a working class non binary live artist, writer, + activist from SEL. They've been performing internationally since ‘15, making live art that centres around radical action, community, rage, and power. With successful residencies at Project Indigo, Wysing, FACT, and Tate, as well as working with Free Word, the Hayward Gallery, Art Night, Hackney Museum, and supporting Kate Nash, they pride themselves on causing chaos through their personal practice + their commitment to antifascist, antisexist, + anticapitalist organising.
SPLIFF RICHARD
Spliff Richard is the living, breathing Brighton cliche. Surviving on a diet of badly paid service jobs, jazz cabbage and artistic aspirations. He's been shouting his brand of rapid, rhyming, rambling, red-eyed rhetoric at audiences for over 16 years. In that time he's appeared regularly at Small World festival, as well as cameos including Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Brighton Fringe and Tribal Earth among others. A veteran of Brighton's 'Poets vs MC's' event, where he shamelessly represented both teams, he's also put in a few appearances at the annual commemoration of the Bronze Woman statue in Stockwell, the UK's first ever statue to a black woman. He's had the pleasure of opening for Johns Cooper-Clarke and Hegley, Kae Tempest, Dizraeli and Kat Francois, and has won a few slams, meaning on any one night he's impressed at least 5 people. He has a troubling addiction to puns, a beard that people find more interesting than the man behind it, and he once stole a bottle of mineral water from a meeting for the Crime Reduction Initiative.
AICHA THERESE
Aicha Thèrèse is an authentic and honest spoken word artist from South East London. She has had the honour of being nominated for 'Best Poet 2020' by the Entertainment Awards and has performed at The Roundhouse, The Whitehall Banqueting House and The Queens House. She encapsules real life experiences into a raw and transparent spoken word style, often creating mix-media work with art and musical influences. Aicha is the founder of 'ATL's Word on the Street', a poetry & music event showcasing live, emerging talent. She is also the Cultural Leader and Spoken word producer for Theatre Peckham. With a poetry book and an EP in the works, Aicha Thérése is one to look out for.

Throughout the night, we'll have a number of Open Mic slots for other poets and spoken word artists. Get yourself down around 7pm to get your name down to perform. We'll then pick the names out and the stage will be yours, welcoming first-timers and veterans. While entry is free, we'll be taking donations during the night to share between the headline acts. |

2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.
9. If this ticket is re-sold or transferred for profit or commercial gain by anyone other than the promoter, venue management, DesignMyNight or one of their authorised sub-agents, it will become voidable and the holder may be
refused entry to or ejected from the venue.
10. The venue may operate a No Smoking Policy.
11. The promoter, venue management and DesignMyNight accept no responsibility for any personal property.
12. The event listed on the purchased ticket is strictly for ticket holders who are over 18 years of age. Identification may be required.
