Blackwater's Winemaker François Haasbroek is jetting over from South Africa, for one evening and for one reason only: to have dinner with you! Being one of the Western Cape's most enthusiastic and charismatic artisan winemakers in town, expect a plethora of cheeky little anecdotes straight from the barrel, as François takes you on a tour through his range.
Kicking off with a splash of his elegant Sauvignon Blanc, stopping over to sip his meaty and mushroomy Pinot Noir, sampling our boss James’ favourite wine and with any luck popping the cork on a splash of something entirely unexpected along the way. We will also be introducing you to our newest of Frankie's imports the Omerta, a single vineyard, 16 month aged little beauty!
François was the winemaker at world-famous Waterford Estate, but built his own Blackwater range during his evenings after his regular shift. So these wines are a deeply personal labour of love. To give you a feel for the dedication of the man, we asked him what he does when he isn’t making wine and he answered: “I think about making wine.” When we pushed him further he said: “Sometimes I go for a bike ride, but I generally get 20 minutes from home, start thinking about wine and have to turn around and come home.”
Don't worry you wont go hungry, our Chefs have created a four course meal of delectable dishes to compliment the wines. In the same vain as Blackwater's wines that are made with minimal intervention, remaining true to there origin, the menu has been carefully curated from locally sourced and moreover seasonal ingredients, with just a tiny touch of South African spice, influence and flavour for good measure - we won't give anymore away than that!
