Hip-hop history returns to Boisdale

Before hip-hop became stadiums, streaming numbers and global fashion language, it was records like "Rapper’s Delight" and "The Message" that pushed it out of the Bronx and into the world. This is a rare chance to hear two names from that first wave in one room.

The Sugarhill Gang changed the game in 1979 when "Rapper’s Delight" took rap into the mainstream, turning a party groove into one of the most important records in modern music. Alongside "Apache" and "8th Wonder", their sound still has the loose, playful energy of early hip-hop: big basslines, long verses, crowd chants and that sense of everyone being let in on the party.

The Furious 5 bring the other side of the story. "The Message" was a turning point, proving hip-hop could speak plainly about pressure, poverty and city life without losing its rhythm. It remains one of the genre’s defining records, sharp, spare and still quoted for a reason.

Following last year’s sold-out show, The Sugarhill Gang and The Furious 5 return to Boisdale with the tracks that helped build the foundation: "Rapper’s Delight", "Apache", "8th Wonder" and "The Message". Expect old-school hip-hop with real lineage, proper crowd energy and records that still know exactly how to move a room.

1. The ticket holder voluntarily assumes all risks and danger incidental to the event for which the ticket is issued, whether occurring prior, during or after the event. The ticket holder voluntarily agrees that the management, venue, event participants, DesignMyNight WFL Media Ltd and all of their respective agents, officers, directors, owners and employers are expressly released by the ticket holder from any claims arising from such causes.
2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
