This year, Katumba Halloween Carnival dives into those deeper roots with the theme 'Ancestral Spirits, Ritual Fire', weaving together the diasporic origins of carnival with the ancient pagan traditions of Samhain. Born from rituals of remembrance, resistance, and renewal, carnival has always been a living space where communities drum, dance, and light the darkness with rhythm and spirit.
By fusing Afro-diasporic beats with the fire and folklore of Halloween, the procession becomes both homage and reinvention - a living ritual connecting past to present, ancestry to community, darkness to light.
The carnival marks the grand finale of Liverpool Black History
Month, featuring participants from their Routes & Roots beginner
sessions, as they join the parade. This year also celebrates 10
incredible years of Katumba, a decade of drumming, movement, and
community.
