Lu Ban is a hidden treasure of Cains Brewery Village in the Baltic area of the city. With the entrance tucked away inside the courtyard next to Punch Tarmey's you might miss this jewel. But venture inside and be warmly greeted to a stylish environment with luxurious private dining rooms and a stunning restaurant with a spacious bar area.
Executive Head Chef Dave J Critchley and his team develop Lu Ban dishes with an inventive culinary passion, respectful of Chinese food culture and traditions.
You can expect small and large plate dining, tasting and set menus, washed down with a carefully curated selection of premium wines, beers and cocktails.
Every Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy a Chinese bottomless brunch with inclusive drinks at £39.50, making the perfect start to your afternoon.
Four Unique Private Dining Rooms
The Wine Room: Set to the side of the main dining area and backing on to our wine cellar, this room is a luxuriously comfortable space decorated in an elegant style with a long wooden dining table and leather chairs. Enjoy the restaurant's set menus with your guests. Of course you'll also be spoilt by the choice of wines..... And cocktails.... And premium drinks. Perfect for up to 14 guests.
The Tianjin Private Dining Room: For complete privacy away from the main restaurant, you can enjoy the luxury of the Tianjin Private Dining Room. With its traditional Chinese round table and Lazy Susan turntable for banquet dish sharing, this room is perfect for up to 12 guests and often chosen by families and for business lunches and dinners.
The Food Lab: This is the party room for an informal style of banquet dining with exclusive use for you and your guests. It looks like a laboratory, and even has its own skeleton affectionately named Lu Bone. The white, long marble table, comfortable bar style low back chairs ooze style and give plenty of space to move around. Perfect for up to 12 guests.
The Chef's Table: This is a dining experience like no other. Enjoy a rare insight into the heart of the Lu Ban kitchen as special guests of the chefs! Watch and listen as your very special tasting menu Chef Dave Critchley is prepared in front of your eyes, with each dish explained by the chefs as they serve you each course. The is the perfect intimate dining experience for 6 guests.

The Chef’s Table is a close-up, private dining experience like no other. You will have a rare insight into the workings of the Lu Ban kitchen, whilst being able to enjoy the company of your guests. You’ll be introduced to the team and will discover the delights of the day. Your senses will be aroused with the smells, noise and views of the kitchen whilst savouring the dishes the chef will prepare and serve to you. The Chef’s Table is a truly exclusive experience, where you become part of the inner sanctum of the restaurant. Perfect for four to six guests for any occasion. Our Wine Room is perfect for up to 14 guests. Set to the side of the main dining area with a huge window to separate the space and backing on to our wine cellar, this room is a luxurious space decorated in an elegant style with a long dining table and comfortable leather chairs. With wines to match cuisine in our striking wine room, you can relax and enjoy your dining experience away from the hum of the restaurant. With seating for 14 guests, you can opt for full privacy: this private area can be discreetly closed off, or you may choose to enjoy the view of the restaurant. Perfect for all occasions where comfort and luxury are desired.
