Description

With a drinks menu stocked to the rafters with delicious cocktails, sumptuous wines and an eclectic mix of worldly beers, it seems unfair to label The Liquorist as anything other than a boozy emporium.

Found on Greek Street, in the very heart of Leeds, this is an open, inviting venue that charms with its mismatched furniture and ornamental knick-knacks. The Liquorist is naturally custom-made for letting loose after work or at weekends, and the venue also offers a hearty food selection that spans everything from fresh salads to fabulous burgers.

Had a fantastic time at The Liquorist for a masterclass cocktail making session. It was for 15 for a hen do, we all had a great time and really enjoyed the experience. Alex who looked after us was great, he didn't make us feel rushed and had plenty of time to make the cocktails and chat. Brilliant experience and would thoroughly recommend, had a great time, thank you visited The Liquorist on 18 Feb 2017

Drinks and service were great however the food wasn't. Me and my boyfriend came for valentines and had the camembert to start- it was luke warm. I then had the pie, the green beans were completely raw. The mash was barely mashed! When I told the waiter about the meal nothing was done- i was at least expecting an apology or possibly a drink on the house. Disappointed unfortunately! visited The Liquorist on 14 Feb 2017

Normally really love the liquorist and visit it quite regularly, however was very disappointed with the food on this occasion. Ordered chicken in a mushroom sauce.... the sauce was mushroomless! When we questioned it they said they had upgraded the chicken and changed the spec on the menu. A friend ordered a cheese burger which came cheeseless! Was very disappointed and would put me off returning for food again. visited The Liquorist on 11 Feb 2017

The service was good from the staff but the table you put us on had a very funny smell and to be honest we was happy to leave for some fresh air I think the smell was either coming from the air conditioning or the drains I am glad we didnt order food as this would have definately put us off visited The Liquorist on 09 Feb 2017

Confusion with the menu as it was pre ordered, some choices had been removed from the menu and I was asked to change our orders which I did, however the kitchen was not provided with the changed menu. Two diners were left to wait for there meals. Confirmed the meal choices on arrival three times with three separate members of staff and it still wasn't right. Rather stressful for me as I had arranged the meal for my boss's retirement! visited The Liquorist on 10 Feb 2017

Could have been better. Service was great to begin with. Arrived at 6.30...waited nearly an hour for our starters....then waited 45 minutes for our main courses but only after having complained twice despite other diners coming in after us and tucking into their mains whilst we were waiting. We pre ordered our food that morning so did not see why it took so long. Food was not hot but warm and one of the steaks was not cooked to my friends ordered preference. Not sure I'd come back to be honest! Eleanor visited The Liquorist on 27 Jan 2017

The food and drinks were absolutely lovely. The lad serving us was great - polite and friendly, but the wait time for food was ridiculous. The server did apologise and explained the restaurant was very busy, but they were obviously understaffed and couldn't cope with the amount of customers. The waitress was absolutely lovely, she did a fantastic job. I cannot remember her name unfortunately but I can remember she had purple coloured hair. She was extremely polite. the food was absolutely perfect too, I had scallops and lamb shank and it was beautiful. We then went downstairs and had a couple of gins, which were also very reasonably priced and we really enjoyed the music! Unfortunately even though we were requested to pre-order our meals, all of our meals had either something missing or wrong. The superfood salads had several ingredients missing such as the avocado and seeds. If they had just been a chicken salad, then they would have been ok but not when the listed items on the menu were not included in the dishes. Nobody asked how the steak should be cooked so it was over done. When a pre-order is requested we expect that the restaurant can fulfil the order. We wanted to try The Liquorist as we hadn't been before... now we might not again. visited The Liquorist on 13 Dec 2016

Area was set aside as requested with all our drinks & mince pies. Staff were very friendly and looked after us. Our Christmas party at the Liquorist was terrible. Where do I start. We booked the table for 8.30pm and pre-ordered our meals. The starters came at 9.30pm, some cold. Some of the mains arrived at 10.20 and were cold and the rest 10 minutes later. Vegetables then arrived another 10mins later (and by then the mains were completely cold) and can only be described as raw at most dipped in boiling water for warmth. The music was far too loud for the restaurant area. If they cannot cater for that many bookings at Christmas then don't make them. The waiter was great and tried his best to keep everyone hydrated, despite the terrible efforts of the kitchen staff and management. We will not be booking or going back ever again! visited The Liquorist on 09 Dec 2016

I know it is Xmas but even allowing for being busy our experience was terrible. The food was so slow, it was cold on arrival, came in bits, veg was raw, soup and steak were cold, portions were tiny. It took that long 2 of our party missed there dessert as they had to catch the last bus. The only saving grace was the staff who were very good at dealing with the incompetence of the chefs who couldn't deliver the food and the management for booking too many people in and not having the team to cope visited The Liquorist on 09 Dec 2016

We really enjoyed the bar but we did reserve a table for 10 people and was given a very small table by the bar which could just about fit 5 people round it, i asked the host if it was correct and she told me it was for 5 people sitting and 5 people standing which wasn't clear when i made the booking. We struggled to all stay in the same area as the table was right near the bar and there was no standing area reserved we just had to elbow our way to the table. The music was really good, a real mix of new and old so good for all ages. I did read on Leeds list that the cocktails where on offer at £5 each from 4pm - 9pm but when i asked at the bar they told me it had ended at 5pm. visited The Liquorist on 10 Dec 2016

I just wanted to say a big thank you for our Christmas Party. The food was excellent and great value for money - everyone commented on how tasty it was. I was emailed a photograph of the area we were having for our party and was advised prior that it was at the front window, by the bar. This wasn't the case on the day however, the area we had was very nice. I must say the service was excellent. Everyone was very polite and helpful. the staff were very available and happy and quick to help which was really lovely. Party of 6 eating and drinking. Firstly we were told that no prawns, fishcakes, fillet steak or risotto available. After being sat for 10 mins we were then told we had been sat in wrong place so moved across, it was obvious this was to accommodate a larger party/late booking and maximise space but as we had booked a few weeks ago it was rather annnoying! Food was nice, although mains were a little cold and not piping hot. Overall we had a good time but loud hen parties surrounded us and spoilt our lunch. Maybe this could be considered when alocating tables as I believe I ticked box saying no special occasion. visited The Liquorist on 26 Nov 2016

Initially greeted by pleasant staff and a great setting. The staff in the restaurant were less impressive, however, as while they were polite, they appeared rather lax and not particularly interested in the customers as much as chatting amongst themselves. It took 20mins to get a bottle of wine which wasn't poured, just plonked in the table. Waiter handed out the menu statement big 3 things that were not available. At peak time on Fridays I thought that was shocking. The menu was ok. We made our selections and waited quite a while again to be served. When the starters arrived - fried chunks of calamari and chicken skewers, it was beautifully presented. The calamari was basic. The most concerns big was the chicken skewers, which consisted of the cheapest looking, reconstituted 'chicken fillets'ever. The was mirrored in the chicken that was served for my main and in my friend's burger, which wouldn't have been out of place in a burger van. Very disappointing as from the venue, we expected big things. Poor quality, not the best service and over-priced for what it actually was. We will not be returning to eat again. visited The Liquorist on 25 Nov 2016

There were three of us and I had been a few weeks earlier and had a lovely hanging kebab and was looking forward to the same again. Unfortunately there were none on the menu. My starter was on the menu as shrimp in garlic butter (or sauce) I can't remember exactly. It came as 2 slices of toasted baguette with 2 dry "shrimps" on each and a bit of shredded lettuce, I almost thought it wasn't my starter. My friend and I plumped for the sticky Teriyaki chicken superfood salad. The menu said the chicken was on skewers. When it came, it was not on skewers but came as 3 large flattened griddled pieces of meat. We didn't know if it was chicken or not. The consistency was strange, almost reformed in texture and it certainly wasn't Teriyaki sauce. If it was anything, it was a rub or coating. The overall flavour was nice and nothing wrong with the salad but it was nothing like the menu had advertised. My friend did raise this with the waiter at the end. I also asked for a Gin and slimline tonic and got a non-slimline tonic. I'm sorry for this and I'm not usually a complainer, I usually try to see the positive but this was a very disappointing visit. visited The Liquorist on 16 Nov 2016

It was good, slow service tho, didn't like the fact one of my guest was presented with the bill for a tab at the bar rather than myself who booked the table... visited The Liquorist on 11 Nov 2016

Our waiter was brilliant, he was fully attentive to all of our needs including our children and as there was 11 of us in total, this was not an easy task! The pie lid was burnt and the waiter promptly exchanged it for a fresh one...no problem at all! Would definitely recommend as the food was also delicious! visited The Liquorist on 26 Oct 2016

Food and drinks were lovely. Server was very cheerful and pleasant. Only slight issue was the length of time that our cocktails took to arrive to our tables after order (was over 20 minutes). Would come back, but would hope the wait for drinks would be slightly better. As it was a thursday night, there weren't many people in. Otherwise, very nice! visited The Liquorist on 20 Oct 2016

We went to The Liquorist, Leeds for a Cocktail Masterclass as a work department night out. The planned evening was brilliant. Mostly the food was lovely, although some of the vegetarians options weren't as tasty. All in all, a good night! visited The Liquorist on 18 Oct 2016

I visited the liquorist on Friday with 3 other friends. The service and food was quite good until it came to the dessert. 3 of us ordered dessert one of which was the melting middle choc pudding, of which there was only 1 left. When the dessert arrived it was rock hard and anything but melt in the middle which was solid! It was obviously overcooked. It took us 15 mins to attract the attention of a waiter by which time everyone else had finished eating. The waiter offered to get my friend another choc pudding at which point she pointed out, as she had taken the last one, there was no more. The waiter then picked up the dessert and said I will knock it off your bill - at worst another dessert should have been offered!! Very disappointed as to how a genuine complaint was dealt with downhamdn visited The Liquorist on 07 Oct 2016

Very poor experience after previous visits which were excellent. 1 Booked on line and email reply said it was not a confirmation and we would be contacted by a member of staff to confirm. This never happened and we had to ring them on Saturday lunch time to confirm the evening reservation 2 Specifically ordered drink without ice and it came full of it and had to be changed. 3 Ordered beef blade with skin on chips, roasted vine tomatoes and mushrooms. Actually served with mashed potato and garden peas.. 4 Other meal was a chicken hanging kebab and salad. Second piece of chicken was raw on one side. How can that happen when all the cooked meat should be checked with a temp probe. The manager never came to apologise and left it to an inexperienced but very helpful server to apologise and discount our bill. There are many alternatives in leeds to enjoy an evening meal and would not recommend this one. Shirley visited The Liquorist on 13 Aug 2016

When we were arranging our wedding, it was just going to be a small wedding at the registry office with a meal afterwards and then we found the liquorist and every changed! We saw the fantastic photos of their rooms on the website and it instantly became clear that this was the place for us. What started out as a small wedding turned into a full on blessing in the study, with a wedding breakfast in the restaurant and an evening do in Bar seven. We were very specific about what we wanted on the day and this was never a problem for Stuart G who was overseeing our big day. We had some really stressful times but 10 mins with Stuart soon put us at ease. We can never thank Stuart and The Liquorist enough for making our big day so memorable. We just wish we could do it all again! Even our friends and family remarked that it was one of the best weddings they had been to!

We order our first round of drinks this took almost half an hr to come and they missed two of them. Then after wait almost an hour and a half we got our main which my order of corn fed chicken was RAW!! All the way through. It looked like it could be hopping around the table!! After sending it back they took it and my drinks off the bill and also gave us free puddings. But I think its an easy answer as to if I will going again. Which is a big fat no! Bloody bloody hell no!!! Thank you but no thank.

I booked an area at least 2 months in advance for my sister in law to be's hen do. The lady I was liasing was so helpful and she offered to even decorate the area with balloons for me and we went into detail with the colour and she said everything would be ready for our arrival including our pre ordered drinks with the champagne glasses. When we got there 15 mins late we were massively disappointmented to see nothing was there apart from a reserved sign. This was a huge let down as there was this big surprise for the hen who had no idea where she was going and we are greeted with nothing! There wasnt even a manager around at first but a team leader explained the lady I'd been liasing had walked out this week. Although 24 hours poor I did get a confirmation email so they knew what drinks were pre ordered- at least the glasses and champagne buckets could have been ready as it was on the booking. However we did get a few free drinks but it just wasn't anything special as planned... lucyloo visited The Liquorist on 29 May 2016

Just want to say a massive thank you for being brilliant and making my Hen night a really special night out. My party and I were welcomed from the minute we walked in the door until we left. The cocktails were gorgeous and the food fantastic. The waitress who served our food was lovely and all of my party were very impressed with this service - Thank you so very much - we will certainly be back to visit again soon! jbeaumont00 visited The Liquorist on 07 May 2016

I booked a table here for my partners birthday. When we arrived we were shoved away in the corner and after 10 minutes of been there the DJ came and took one of our tables away because he said he needed it. They didn't have enough staff on to serve the amount of people that were ordering drinks. I had to wait 7 minutes to be served. So overall i was very disappointed in the venue.
