"I don't have a drink problem. Drink has a me problem" - Craig Ferguson.

Everyone has heard of the 27 Club. In July 2018, two months shy of his 28th birthday, Callum Hughes was nearly added to that list.

Join the acclaimed writer and performer as he takes you on a journey from a small Oxfordshire town to the bright lights of London as he attempts to discover who he is without looking through the bottom of the bottle.

Featuring original songs, Thirst is both a love letter to sobriety and a celebration of all things alcoholic.

Thirst is the debut solo performance piece by actor, writer, activist and facilitator Callum Hughes. Born out of an MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths University, Thirst is the very real autobiographical story of Callum's journey through addiction, recovery and now into sobriety, and how his drinking was affected by his search for acceptance.

Although a stark look at alcoholism in its various forms, Thirst is also a joyous and uproarious look at life, family, theatre, religion and most importantly, the positivity of the pub.

So pull up a barstool, order Callum a 0% lager and listen to his incredible story.

SHOW - A powerful story well told, in two parallel threads, charting the events of a current and previous timeline. Fascinating insights into funeral parlour procedures, entwined with a harrowing account of a life-altering violation by an apparently nice family man. Just some small points: I thought the framing of the narrative with the suggestion that it was told to a therapist was an unnecessary cliché and it wasn't credible that it would be recounted to them in this way. Just tell the audience! I was a bit confused about the age of the young child. The choice of a black costume in a black-box theatre reduced the visual impact. It would have worked better with white/blue/green overalls/apron (it wouldn't matter that this is out if place in the earlier thread). VENUE - Fabulous little theatre and the food was excellent but the bar and serving staff need training. There were several odd incidents, including offering ice in a lager, listing Heineken as an option when asked what ciders they had, not providing glasses with a jug of water and then only bringing one when requested (different members of staff).

A brilliant evening! This was a wonderful tribute the genius of Victoria Wood and it was performed with great skill and obvious affection for the material. Definitely go!
