Description
Root is one of Wapping Wharf’s most charismatic dining spots, a veg‑led restaurant set across a cluster of shipping containers overlooking Bristol’s historic harbourside. Opened in 2017 by owners Josh Eggleton and Luke Hasell, the idea was to flip the traditional menu structure on its head, putting vegetables centre stage and allowing meat and fish to play a supporting role. Seasonal produce from small local growers takes the lead, resulting in inventive sharing plates that are full of colour, character and flavour. Root has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its commitment to good‑value, high‑quality cooking, cementing its place as one of the city’s standout neighbourhood restaurants.
In the kitchen, Head Chef Rob Howell champions a simple, thoughtful approach to food, shaped by years working in France, London and at Bristol’s Michelin‑starred The Pony and Trap. His menus change constantly with the seasons, showcasing vegetables at their very best and giving each ingredient space to shine. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with the service team bringing an easy charm that fits perfectly with Wapping Wharf’s creative, independent spirit.
