Bulrush

Description

Nestled in the leafy suburb of Cotham, Bulrush is a charming, intimate dining gem that’s been quietly earning accolades since opening its doors in 2015. Led by chef‑owner George Livesey - whose debut solo venture saw him hone his craft with stints at St John and Club Gascon -Bulrush has held onto its Michelin star since 2018.

The pared‑back Scandi‑inspired interiors frame an open kitchen where you can watch George and head chef Jake Pain meticulously plate dishes that blend classic Anglo‑French technique with nuanced Japanese and Scandinavian influences. The result is a tasting menu that celebrates the seasons with foraged ingredients, fermentation and pickles aplenty, all delivering a dining experience that feels personal without ever being pretentious.

To mark its tenth birthday in 2025, Bulrush reintroduced some of its most beloved dishes from the archives (think Cornish crab with black yuzu and a buckwheat‑honey dessert inspired by the Japanese mountains) alongside current menu favourites like lamb merguez sausage and Chalk Stream trout. With just 28 covers across two floors of an old greengrocer’s, there’s a cosy, neighbourhood‑restaurant vibe, heightened by a thoughtful wine or non‑alcoholic pairing.
