This is the second year we have visited the cocktail weekend in Birmingham. This year we had an even better experience then last year. There are plenty of bars that take part and all the cocktails are different and amazing! Its lovely to visit places that you may not have been before. The atmosphere is brilliant, everyone that is working in the bars, out and about drinking are having a great time and it just adds to a wonderful experience. A brilliant opportunity to showcase all that's Birmingham has to offer. It certainly gave me the chance to visit some of the bars that I would not normally be familiar. I'll be visiting the some of those places again soon and definitely hope to attend next year and try to squeeze in all of the cocktails over the whole weekend. I liked that the guide was detailed and that it contained a map showing all the venues. It would be helpful if the guide showed which cocktails would served at each venue. It would also be lovely if there was a freebie cocktail hidden along the way or at the starting point. Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

I found this weekend really disappointing and probably won't participate next year. This was the third year I had attended and it was not as good as previously. It took at least 20 mins to be served at each bar, (ridiculous considering it was Sat afternoon/early evening!) the cocktails were not as tasty as in previous years and as we spent so much time queueing, we were unable to chat and have fun. In addition, having queued in two places for over 20 mins we were told that the cocktails had run out!! If I was to make any constructive comments, it would be that a clearly identified Cocktail Weekend section of the bar would be a good idea (a little like they did in Malmaison this year). It would make sure you are queueing in the right place and if they did run out (can't imagine why they would!), they can clearly identify this so you are not wasting your time standing in line. I would also suggest that the bars think about what they offer and perhaps consider something that allows a large part of the work to be done beforehand - in terms of pre-mixing the majority of the cocktail in advance - to relieve the pressure on the bar staff and reduce the amount of time standing in line. A fantastic weekend with the perfect opportunity for Birmingham bars to show what they can do to people that may not normally visit them. There were some amazing cocktails and the hospitality from all venues we visited was second to none. Thanks all !!! Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Great weekend...except for malmaison...had to queue st special bar for 20minutes...no control there over wristbands allowed several individuals yo order 10/15 and even 20 at s time prolonging the time...should be 1 cocktail 1 wristband certainly not 20 at a time. Discounted cocktails and lots of them - our kind of festival! The event was well organised and created a great atmosphere across sunny Birmingham. Liked the info pack and updates on Facebook. Would've helped to know exactly what the signature cocktails were at each venue, e.g. a description/ingredients, as often just a sign above the bar, we had no idea what we were ordering. Some of the bars ran out of ingredients by Saturday night. Perhaps next year, participants could download an app that sends alerts about upcoming events, highlights exactly where all participating venues are on a digital map, tells people more about the signature cocktails and offers discounted hotel rates and discounts on food? Would like to return next year. Thanks! Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Very much a gin based theme to most of the cocktails I tried this year. However, decent sized glasses but not a high alcohol content. Nice to visit Gaucho, but allocated bar area far too small to comfortably accommodate numbers. Loved the accompanying DJ sets at Malmaison and Harvey Nicks, the latter of which served a nice ginger beer infused cocktail. This helped redeem the poor 'shove 'em on the landing' approach Harvey Nicks adopted in 2016 when the main bar was closed. Would still love a heads up on which venue is serving what to help plan route, but I suppose that will never happen as the aim is to encourage people to visit as many venues as possible. Overall a great night. Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Please can we have a list of which cocktails are at the venues next year - some of our party felt a bit disappointed when we got cocktails that were not to their taste. Early planning especially with the jazz festival is essential for us each year - entertainment and cocktails would be cracking. Loved the Mailbox contingent and The Victoria's efforts this year. I enjoyed the cocktail weekend, but my friend and I both agree that some of the cocktail bars seemed to be serving up very generic spritzer type cocktails. I didn't go last year, but I went the year before and there seemed to be a lot more originality then. I was particularly unimpressed by places such as the Alchemist who usually serve up very imaginative and tasty creations, but this year seemed to choose style over substance. Good atmosphere. A bit disappointing though, as by the time Saturday night came some of the bars we went into had run out of the signature cocktails. The cocktails we did manage were mostly good, especially Bodega and The Botanist. Special shout out to the bar man in Buffalo for winging it with half the ingredients missing! Great event! Loved every min of our day (Saturday) the only negative was a couple of the bars had ran out of cocktails by late afternoon/early evening and weren't offering alternatives. Gusto - 2/10 - poor flavour, paid £4 for a soda water really Gaucho - 9/10 - fantastic cocktail, great atmosphere, my favourite! The Cosy Club - 1/10 - completely lame, full of ice & sweet Lost & Found - 4/10 - no great shakes The Botanist - can't remember it! Bourne & Co - 7/10 - very tasty & finally a grown up cocktail which didn't just consist of sugar syrup! The Victoria- 8/10 - surprisingly really good! Not a whiskey drinker normally but this was a corker... Had a fun time but some venues need to up their game, I think I would hit the high end bars next time to see if there is an improvement Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Really enjoyed the event. The masterclasses etc. are always excellently run, and the participating venues well signed-posted - in three years I've never turned up to a participating venue and have them not totally on the ball with BCW. Loved the variety of participating venues, especially having ones that don't usually do cocktails. My only quibble is that it felt like there were fewer masterclasses/drop-in events this year in comparison to previous years. Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Loved the daytime stuff, the atmosphere changed markedly come sundown and not for the better. Would like to know the spirit base for each signature cocktail via the booklet before visiting the venue. That said I was introduced to a lot of things I'd never normally drink i.e. gin and vodka. Great showmanship from the guys at Siamais. Loved your Dragon's Breath. Popularity of this has increased massively from one year to next which is great for the organisers but I found it to be detrimental to my enjoyment. Too many places were busy, some even turned you away. List of places to try was extensive and well planned. Good range of cocktails at the 15 places we managed to go to. Great number of venues with some better prepared for how busy it would be than others. Better prepared and located wristband collection point this year. Great mix of venues. Gives you a chance to try a well priced cocktail in places that would normally feel to expensive like Marco Pierres,Harvey Nics and Malmaison. Add more like this next year and get Gingers on board. Had a great weekend and managed to get a cocktail at every venue we visited which was the majority of them 😉 I would say the booklet needs to tighten up on the opening times detailed AND note when is likely to be busiest time (aside from the obvious Saturday evening). Some venues also need to plan better, on more than one occasion venues had run out of things like ice, glasses and even the cocktail themselves! Alternative cocktails should be offered if this happens! Loved The New Alexandra Theatre who had a signature cocktail but also offered the same with a twist. Great Idea. Last year there were more (free) tasting/sampling events on that you could get involved with and plan your day around. Think this was lacking this year (but loved the Bols talk at Marmalade). Liked the addition of a couple of venues putting on specific food deals for BCWer's. All in all another great weekend but what else would you expect from Birmingham. Could do with a map firstly. Not knowing Birmingham we struggled to know where places were. Maybe co-ordinate with an app map? On the whole, we had a fantastic day sampling the cocktails on offer at some fabulous venues across the City. The only fly in the ointment was Selfridge's, who at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon advised us they had sold out of the £4 cocktail, but were happy to try and sell us an £18 glass of champagne! The majority of the venues were lovely and you could tell that they used quality ingredients for their cocktails. However, we did have an issue with Marco Pierre Whites and their dress code rules, I noticed a large amount of people being turned away because of their shoes!! Also, with one of the bars at the Mailbox I noticed they they were pouring cheap tequila into Patron bottles... obviously trying to make them look more fancier than they were. Other than that, the venues that we attended were spectacular and we will definitely be returning!! :) x Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

My fiancé and really enjoyed our Birmingham cocktail weekend. We collected our wrist bands from the hotel du vin and enjoyed a lovely espresso martini. We then headed out on the Birmingham cocktail trail. We really enjoyed seeing lots of different venues that we would not ordinarily have visited. Marco Pierre White’s was the highlight of the trip with its amazing views. We met lots of lovely people. We are already looking forward to next years event. The places that had made an effort really stood outt and provided a high quality experience (Siamais, Pushkar, New Alexandra Theatre, Marco Pierre White at the Cube, the Botanist, Gaucho, Hotel du Vin, Chung Ying, Tom's Kitchen) . Sadly however majority of places had gone for cheap, fast and easy fruit juice with rum/vodka/tequila. My old favourites Victoria and Jekyll & Hyde were especially disappointingly unimaginative and lacking quality. I doubt Edwardian Tea Room drink even contained alcohol..., Also by Sunday selfridges balcony was only offering a standard g&t. Some obvious venues were also missing such as the Alchemist. 36 venue hike is impressive, but I would recommend adding nibbles to options as liquid diet can be hard on the body and the mind. Chung Ying deal for example was a welcome break. Really good free events. Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Good event - it's nice being able to go to new places that you haven't heard of before! I would have preferred a list of the cocktails (including ingredients) in the booklets so you can decide which ones you will like the most and then you can plan where you are going properly! What a great weekend! Can't wait for the next one. Have discovered some new bars and restaurants I will be revisiting, who knew Birmingham had so many. The best by far was Gaucho, will definitely be going back there. Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Birmingham Cocktail weekend was a fantastic event and I'm really looking forward to next year and discovering new bars and restaurants that I would never have found without it. The only disappointment was that Bodega Bar ran out of ice on Saturday night & Buffalo & Rye ran out of Whiskey! Both the same chain, so were unable to provide a cocktail at their venue :-( Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Very well organised, had a great weekend! Only suggestions would be maybe some sign posts about directing you around, the guide book to have the bar numbers as per the numbers on the map and the bar to have detailed their signature cocktails in the booklet with the ingredients etc! But that's being picky! Very well organised - will definately do again!! Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Being very picky from a personal point of view it would be nice if the ingredients of the signature cocktails for each venue could be included in the booklet. This is because I have an allergy to orange juice so I could plan my route avoiding any venues that include this as I had to miss out on a couple of drinks. Had a brilliant time at the cocktail weekend- loved going into some bars I haven't been in before- could have done with some of the bars writing what was in the cocktails as well as the name of them as it helped decide which place to go- we found there were a few too many using tequila as we would have chosen differently had they put what was in them on the information. Fab day. We went on the Saturday. My only feedback would be that it would've been nice to have what the signature cocktails were at each place in the brochure. I loved the map - made everything easy. Look forward to next years! Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

It's a nice idea, which will naturally attract groups for birthdays and hen parties etc, but this then meant that most bars were too busy for us to even gain entry so weren't able to benefit from various cocktails. It would also be good to have listed in the programme which cocktail will be served at each bar as this could make the decision easier! Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

It was so busy this year! I think there needs to be more venues, a second hub and more (ideally free) events. The cocktails were a mixed bag, I loved the one in The Lost and Found (but that tiny room was sweltering and packed!). The cocktail in Gusto was very poor, it just tasted like lemon water, not convinced it had any alcohol in it whatsoever. Also, why didn't the Chameleon take part this year?! I loved their cocktail and atmosphere last year! I will be looking forward to seeing what happens next year! Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Some great venues and amazing cocktails. Only downside some bars were very busy and unlike others didn't have a member of staff exclusively appointment to serve wrist band holders so ended up waiting up to 20 mins whilst they attempted to serve during their manic 2 for 1 period. We had a really enjoyable afternoon/ evening. We went to venues that we had never been to before to try out all of the nice signature cocktails. Very well thought out and planned. Great range of cocktail bars. However some wouldn't let us in because of capacity. I personally think these ones shouldn't take part in the event if they can't hold many people in their bar. I also thing the ingredients for each cocktail should be displayed so we know what we are getting before we purchase. Visited At venues across the City on 2017-07-14

Such a great event. Really well organised and with some fantastic locations. Loved the Gin Lab at Jekyll and Hyde on Saturday. Really great nice with lovely people. One thing to improve would be to include what cocktails are at each location. One of my friends is allergic to pineapple and we had to be careful at each location to ask what was included. The only improvement I can think of is if the book listed the main spirit of the signature cocktail, e.g. Rum based. We turned up to a few after a walk and found it to be gin based (we're not fans of gin) Also the museum told us half an hour wait for a signature cocktail. How?!! Overall ot was a fabulous event we had a couple of venues that were not really big enough to host 1847 on the geat western arcade being one amd the cocktail itself pretty grim and Selfridges really let it down running out of gin....and not offering a alternative bit of a poor show on their part ,and pennyblacks suffered with a rude member of barstaff and the cocktail was wrong and we had a refund. Toms kitchen, aluna, groucho, all highlights and a surprise lovely cocktail and atmosphere at the lobby and marmalade Jekyll and Hyde was disappointing but we bet the hin stilling would have been ace we didnt make that this year but will try for next year.
