Central, homely and unique are but a few ways to describe the eye-catching Old Joint Stock Pub and Theatre, in the heart of Birmingham City Centre just a short walk from Snow Hill station and New Street Station. Description
“For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul.” ~ Mark 8:36
Passion is about faith, sexuality and a boy’s struggle with his heteronormative upbringing and beliefs discussed through the prism of conversion therapy; a practice that, since a bill passed in parliament in 2021, is still legal in the UK for over 18s, with 18 to 24 year olds being the majority of people who are pressured to access it’s services.
Written and performed by Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduates Tom Dalrymple and Nadav Burstein, ‘Passion’ is an intimate and violent multi-media piece, telling the story of a young man and his fight to define his ideals. It looks at both the beauty and prejudice created by religion and discusses the cis ideals upheld in British culture.
How does masculinity create conflict in a same-sex relationship? What dictates our faith & sexuality? To what extent does our cultural upbringing define how we see ourselves? Can you be Christian and homosexual?
