Having misheard the lyrics to a Paul Simon song, comedian/drummer Paul Richards soon started wonder: is it possible to be fired by 50 bands? What started as a bit of fun with some local bands soon turned into a project that took over this life…with Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Heaven 17, Frank Turner, Nik Kershaw, John Otway, Graham Parker, comedy genius Arthur Smith and 43 other acts all very willing indeed to brutally dispense of Paul’s services, one thing is for sure: everybody loves sacking a drummer.

The film documenting Paul’s adventure premiered to enormous success at the Arts Picturehouse, Cambridge in November 2015 and is set for a summer release. The stage show, which is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe in the summer, is a beautifully bizarre, heart-warming story about the joys of rejection and the casual stalking of 80s funk legends, T’Pau.

About Paul: Paul Richards is a storytelling comedian and playwright based in Cambridge. He is also a drummer, and quite often likes to combine the two. He has written fourteen shows that have ended up at the Edinburgh Fringe, initially as a comedy writer for ensembles but with the last five being solo. With a likeable, gentle rambling style and with the look of a man who clearly isn't used to being this tall, Paul's work has been positively received all over the country from both audiences and reviewers alike. Paul tours the UK frequently in his battered little Ford Fiesta, with his adventures taking him everywhere from 'proper' theatres in Devon to a bakery on The Isle Of Skye.

“Sweet, grounded and self-deprecating…Paul delivers his stories with a genuine honesty that is immediately endearing.” – Heckler magazine

“Paul delivers his stories with heart-warming honesty…Paul Richards constantly makes you smile – **** ” – Get Reading
