Ever struggled to decide between which club night or gig to go to? Want to dance to retro tunes one minute then watch your favourite up and coming band the next? Hott Date is for you! Once described by Grazia Magazine as 'DJ Speed Dating', Hott Date brings together the best and most fun independent brands, DJs and cutting-edge bands together for one big mother of a party!

Originally launched 10 years ago at The Rainbow Pub in Digbeth, Hott Date became known as the best party around, great people, atmosphere, music and a hell of a lot of silliness. After killer parties held at The Rainbow Pub, Garden, Beach and Warehouse, The Flapper, The Hare & Hounds and more, Hott Date went into hibernation for a few years until 6th May 2018 when it came back with a bang at Cafe Colette & Digbeth Dining Club.

This August we bring you a smaller affair at the much-loved Night Owl with two areas of music, a third of the capacity of our last event, amazing bands, DJs, BBQ & FUN baby!

SUNDAY 5TH AUGUST

HOTT DATE BBQ

With two areas of music you can either party hard, or relax and chill with a few bevs then go home at midnight & sleep it off in time for work the next day! Bosh!

Line up includes:

BANDS:

Lions of Dissent

A sonic and visual space odyssey, orbiting its own sphere.

From cryptic beginnings 3 years ago as a multimedia solo project, 2017 saw Lions of Dissent suddenly explode into a 3D technicolour reality – playing back to back sell out live shows, selling 400 tickets in the process and releasing their spaced out debut EP. The group has firmly established itself as an authentic and radical, music and art collective.

They have picked up plaudits from the likes of Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins, Bella Union Records), Anton Newcombe (Brian Jonestown Massacre), who used an image of the group in a BJM video, Tom Robinson (BBC Radio 6), Lee Scratch Perry and Simone Marie Butler (Primal Scream).

Flamingo Flame

Initially started as a solo project from Greg Bird, Flamingo Flame is the result of a long-term collaboration with guitar-wizard Danny Rowe. With the percussive talents of Gareth Bennett and Rocky Steps lending his magic fingers for the keys, FF are all about spacious melodies carried by rhythm and soul, harking back to the euphoric gloop of 80s indie without getting bogged down in retro pastiche.

Exotic Pets

"A lo-fi indie garage punk trio...Exotic Pets have a bright, single-coil, post-punk, unfussy sound, but with enough licks and flourishes to keep things interesting." Birmingham Review

Ed Geater

‘The pools of music influential to Ed Geater are varied at least, confusing at most: folk, electronica, hip-hop and alternative rock. However, the precision with which he prises elements from each genre and perfectly balances them embodies the unique sound of Ed Geater’ – Bab Mag

'Proving six strings and one brain can go a long way' - Louder Than War

'One of the West Midlands' most exciting talents' - BBC Introducing

VEDA

VEDA is the bedroom pop project of multi-instrumentalist, Dominic Antonio Sepúlveda from Birmingham, UK. Supporting groups such as Fufanu, White Fang and Horsebeach, and gaining support from BBC introducing and Richer Unsigned, VEDA finished off 2017 with their first international tour in Spain. Influences include the likes of The Cure, Beach Fossils and Hibou.

George Wilson

George Wilson a 21yr old Singer/Songwriter from West Midlands, currently writing, recording, and producing all his own music from a small home studio, George delivers a spell binding fuse of rock steady reggae and alternative sounds thus combining his interpretation of modern reggae rock. Which is captivating and addictive to the ear.

Matt Millard

"EXCELLENT" - BBC MUSIC INTRODUCING

"STUNNING" - BIRMINGHAM LIVE

Self produced Singer / Songwriter Matt Millard provides "an alluring and refreshing blend of folk and pop that takes a different route from the rest" - Wolf In A Suit.

Drawing influences from recent folk revival artists such as Justin Vernon and Ben Howard, Millard’s music combines intricate acoustic melodies with a warm yet melancholy vocal, described by Birmingham Live as an artist who is "both raw and honest...definitely one you should be watching"
