Midsummer Garden Party at The Swan at Streatley

An evening of live strings, jazz, riverside dining and long summer nights on the Thames.

On Saturday 4 July, The Swan at Streatley will host its first midsummer strings garden party across the riverside lawns and gardens, with musicians from the Royal Academy of Music performing live beside the river.

Playing a mix of contemporary covers alongside timeless classical pieces, the string quartet will soundtrack the afternoon and early evening from the lawns. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of Nyetimber and roaming seasonal canapés, with music drifting across the gardens as daylight fades over the Thames.

Throughout the evening, guests can order from the Lawn Bar & Grill alongside a series of specials cooked over fire and coal, from scallops roasted in shell with smoked butter and seaweed, to whole grilled Devon monkfish with samphire chimichurri, slow-cooked Berkshire lamb with blistered leeks and smoked garlic, and BBQ’d summer fruits with yoghurt ice cream and miso caramel.

Later in the evening, the atmosphere shifts indoors with live jazz from the acclaimed Gabriel Latchin Trio. Recently described by The Guardian as “the best straight-ahead jazz pianist to appear in the past few years”, Gabriel Latchin has become one of the leading names on the contemporary UK jazz scene, with the trio drawing inspiration from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock.

Think summer dresses, linen shirts, chilled English sparkling wine and golden-hour by the Thames.
