Description
The George isn’t just any boozer it’s a proper community-led Newcastle pub, built on pure graft, pride and a bit of North East quirk. We carry the name of George Stephenson, one of our own, the young lad who helped put the railways on the map and changed the game across the world.
But for us, it’s bigger than history books and big inventions. It’s about the same canny work ethic and community spirit that’s always run through the North East. From the pits to the platforms, from the yards to the terraces, that drive’s still alive and kicking. By bearing his name, we’re championing that proper Geordie heart – hardworking, welcoming, and proud as owt of where we come from.
Oh and we forgot to mention we have a Wood Fire Pizza Oven built
from scratch in the terrace area that we call the Fire
Pit.

The George Stephenson is new management and after a full fancy refurb the locals really have fallen back in love with the offering The George Stephenson’s back where it belongs – right at the heart of the community. We’ve given the place a fresh start, but kept the soul of it intact. It’s warm, it’s welcoming, and it’s proper Geordie to the core.
Aye, you’ll get good scran and a canny pint pulled just right – but it’s more than that. It’s about neighbours rubbing shoulders, families calling in after work, pals putting the world to rights and new faces feeling like regulars from the minute they step through the door. Whether you’re nipping in for a quick half or settling in for the night, this is your place as much as ours.
We’ve got big plans, mind. We want The George Stephenson to be the pride of West Moor and known right across Newcastle as the pub that does it right. More community nights, more cracking events, even better food on the plates – and always that same friendly welcome at the bar. By mixing a bit of local history with proper quality and a lively atmosphere, we’re building something that lasts. Not just a pub you visit, but a pub you’re part of.
