Description
Café Chelsea, nestled within the iconic Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, is a French-American bistro that blends timeless elegance with contemporary flair. Operated by Sunday Hospitality and partner Charles Seich, the restaurant is the first new dining concept to open in the hotel since 1930.
The interior pays homage to the building’s storied past, featuring vintage chandeliers from Lord & Taylor, a zinc bar, decorative molding, and a rotating collection of artwork created by past hotel residents. The space includes several distinct dining areas: the formal Petit Café, the sunlit Grand Café, a private Wine Room, and a verdant Solarium with its own bar, each offering a unique ambiance for guests.
Under the culinary direction of Chef Derek Boccagno, Café Chelsea serves a menu rooted in classic French bistro fare with thoughtful updates. Signature dishes include poulet rôti, tartare de boeuf, façon niçoise, and ravioles du Dauphiné, alongside desserts like chocolate soufflé and vanilla cognac ice cream. Wine Director Claire Paparazzo has curated a list that leans French and American, with a mix of collectible bottles and approachable selections, while cocktails reinterpret classics like the French 75 and Boulevardier.
