Casa Enrique

Description

Casa Enrique, nestled in Long Island City, Queens, is a celebrated Mexican restaurant that has earned acclaim for its authentic cuisine and intimate atmosphere. Opened in 2012 by Chef Cosme Aguilar and his brother Luis, the restaurant pays homage to their childhood in Chiapas, Mexico. The interior is minimalist yet warm, with whitewashed walls, simple wooden furnishings, and subtle decorative touches that let the food take center stage. The cozy space includes a charming outdoor patio, making it a relaxed yet refined setting for enjoying traditional Mexican fare.

Chef Cosme Aguilar’s journey to culinary prominence is as compelling as his dishes. Originally trained in French cuisine, Aguilar transitioned to Mexican cooking to honor his mother’s recipes and heritage. His dedication earned Casa Enrique a Michelin star in 2014, making it New York City's first Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant.

Though the star was lost in 2023, the restaurant remains highly regarded for its soulful dishes like mole de Piaxtla and slow-cooked brisket tacos. Aguilar has also been nominated for a James Beard Award, further cementing his status as a leading figure in Mexican cuisine. Casa Enrique is known not only for its culinary excellence but also for offering one of the most affordable Michelin-level dining experiences in the city
