The Banksy Museum

Description

The Banksy Museum, tucked into a historic building at 277 Canal Street in SoHo, NYC, stretches across two floors (about 15,000 sq ft) of the former Oltarsh Building - once a 1927 theater - now transformed into a raw, industrial-style tribute to street art. Inside, you’ll find over 160 life-size recreations of Banksy’s most famous murals, rendered on walls and surfaces that mimic the urban grit and textures of outdoor settings, preserving that guerrilla street-art energy.

Many original Banksy works have been whitewashed, removed, or vandalized, so these recreated murals, brought to life by anonymous street artists, let fans experience the art at scale, in something close to its intended context. You’ll also see Banksy’s studio pieces and media like animations and videos, plus immersive environments like a replica of the Walled Off Hotel, offering deeper insight into the political themes that drive his work.

There’s one big caveat: Banksy himself hasn’t sanctioned this museum. His representatives emphasize he does not endorse or benefit from such commercial uses of his work, and some argue this venture runs contrary to his anti-establishment ethos.
