Martiny's

Description

Martiny’s is a sleek, three-level cocktail bar tucked inside a restored 1800s carriage house in Gramercy, New York. The space blends Old New York charm with Japanese elegance - think exposed brick, warm wood, and soft jazz floating through the air. Each floor offers a slightly different vibe, but the overall feel is intimate and refined. Founder and Beverage Director Takuma Watanabe, formerly of Angel’s Share, has infused the venue with the Japanese concept of shokunin - a dedication to mastering one’s craft - which shows in everything from the featherweight Kimura glassware to the omotenashi-style hospitality.

What sets Martiny’s apart is its meticulous attention to detail and its fusion of Japanese precision with classic cocktail traditions. The drinks menu is a curated journey, often likened to an omakase experience, with cocktails that nod to Tokyo’s Ginza bars while reimagining Western classics. Takuma’s creations have earned serious recognition: Martiny’s was named Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar at the Spirited Awards in 2023, ranked number 24th in the World’s 50 Best Bars in 2024, and climbed to 15th in North America’s 50 Best Bars in 2025. Takuma himself has picked up accolades, including Bartender of the Year and a James Beard semifinalist nod.
