Description

The Mexican market food maestros that are Wahaca can be found in Manchester's Corn Exchange for tacos and Margarita talk a-plenty.

Undergoing a huge renovation project, the Grade II listed Triangle building has become an emporium for all things food and drink. Enter Wahaca. Expanding on their mammoth London success, the vibrant Mexican brand has brought its fresh flavours and big tasting tacos to the North with quirky interiors and beloved plates galore.

Champions of the Mexican morsels, this joint is known for plating up a menu of traditional street food fare, authentic small plates to the munching of burritos, tacos and quesadillas as well as plenty of big plate favourites for a real feasting session. But, this would be no Hispanic hot spot without a cheeky selection of Tequila tipples and Mezcal mixers, which come in abundance at Wahaca.

Good location (try to get a table in the central atrium part of the building) service was great and food was original and tasty (waitress was great in keeping us informed what kinds of things to try and mix up) cocktails were margarita variations which were pretty decent; not bad prices so overall a good experience - highly recommend :) visited Wahaca Manchester on 15 Jul 2017

I went to Wahaca Corn Exchange Manchester for a birthday lunch and drinks with friends. Overall the experience was good. The food was lovely and the drinks we had were good and we found the price of what we had reasonable. However our service was rather disappointing at times. The staff were all extremely friendly but service was slow and speratic. It took a long time after all our party had arrived for our order to be taken, and we ordered a few cocktails during the course of the meal, which at times took 15 minutes to arrive. A couple our party ordered drinks and then wenthe outside for a cigarette and came back 15mins later and the cocktails still hadn't arrived. I was pleasantly surprised that i could get a birthday treat, which was very kind. I ordered the churros as my treat and paid for a portion of ice cream on the side, the waitress said she would bring me cutlery, next time we saw her she was serving another table and my ice cream was melting and I still had no spoon, a friend ended up getting me a spoon in the end. Unfortunately this was a regular theme from our server throughout the meal. A few of our party have waiting on experience, so we understand that it can be hectic and busy at time's during service but it seemed like she was extremely overwhelmed and stressed during her shift. We were left with half of our used plates left, I was brought the wrong drink at one point and then she brought the wrong bill to us, saying herself at one point "I'm really sorry, I don't know what I'm doing today". She was clearly struggling and it was clear she had a lack of support and help. We just laughed it all off between our party and just had to say "oh dear she's a bit slow we might get drinks at some point" I felt sorry for her really. I don't know if she hadn't been working there for very long but I would say more training, support and understanding between staff to know when they are struggling is definitely needed. When we got our bill, we were surprised with the amount of service charge in comparison with level of service we received. We did think perhaps that's why our service wasn't as good as it could have been, because the service charge has already been decided for you. Overall I think more training and support is needed for staff. I would like to come back to Wahaca in the future, to see what the difference in service may be. visited Wahaca Manchester on 02 Jul 2017

*Review Continued* when we got our bill we were shocked at the amount we had to pay service charge. Our bill total came to £181.00 including a £16.80 service charge. I understand that with parties over 5 people there is a service charge added. However with level of service we received, £16.80 was not justified. Perhaps if it was tip only our level of service may have been different. We didn't have a problem with paying the cost of food and drink as it was nice and worth the prices but the service charge policy is definitely questionable. I would like to come back to Wahaca in the future to see what the difference may be if our service was better. Depending on how my next visit goes will definitely depend on my being a regular customer of Wahaca Manchester. visited Wahaca Manchester on 02 Jul 2017

We had a lovely time at Wahaca in the Corn Exchange, Manchester, yesterday. Our servers were professional yet friendly and approachable. We chose 3 each of the small plates and I especially enjoyed the crab tostadas and cod tacos. All our food was freshly cooked and beautifully spiced. This is our 6th visit to Wahaca (in London and in Manchester) and we love its festive vibe. We will be returning again in due course and can thoroughly recommend Wahaca. visited Wahaca Manchester on 28 Jun 2017

The food was great and worth the money. However, service and staff was very disappointing. Booked the table but it took 20 minutes for someone to come and only after when I asked to be served! Our waiter did not even ask if you want a drink , she even rolled her eyes when I asked for dietary requirements. Also, my friend requested no coriander on top and her dish was still with coriander. I loved the food but because of how we were treated I am not sure if I would go back. visited Wahaca Manchester on 03 Jun 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We were a table of 8 seated upstairs. There was a good atmosphere in the restaurant, just the right level of busy and the music was a great volume; not too deafening but enough to add a great buzz to the room. The food was all fabulous. It arrived in great time and there wasn't a dish which wasn't enjoyed. We were happy with the wide variety of small plates and the multiple vegetarian options available. Our waitress was incredible and every member of the party left complimenting her service. I can't remember her name but she was tall and blonde and was wearing her hair in a loose plait. She was smiley and friendly and very attentive. We ordered a mix of small plates and larger mains, which I can understand could've been quite complex, but she took our order quickly, efficiently and took the time to chat and joke with us. I can't thank her enough for making our wonderful evening even more special! She's a tribute to the team and was a pleasure to be served by. visited Wahaca Manchester on 07 Apr 2017

Overall pretty happy. We have been to the london one before and know it is good. We ordered quite a few small dishes. Most of them were great apart from one. When waiter asked us, we mentioned the chicken and lime taco had little taste and he refunded it. Great service! I think the tacos could be slightly bigger. I've been to a few tacquerias in Spain and got much more for my money. Tacos are small, but not that small. Apart from that we were happy. visited Wahaca Manchester on 01 Apr 2017

Mixed feelings really. Of the 6 of us, 5 of us really enjoyed the food, 1 of the party didn't like the beef dish as it was mostly fat and very little meat. The other issue was that 4 of the party had been served and eaten their main course before the other 2 had even had their meals served. We had to ask 3 times to have it chased up. Drinks orders also seemed very slow unfortunately and came at different times. We felt a little aggrieved paying the compulsory service charge as we did not feel our experience justified this. Would be hesitant to come back as a result unfortunately. visited Wahaca Manchester on 01 Apr 2017

The food was nice but the service was poor. We booked a table but ended up waiting at the door for nearly ten minutes for someone to take us to our table. When we ordered our food the waitress dropped a side dish on the table which went everywhere and knocked over a drink (which is fine as accidents happen). She attempted to clean half of it up and said she would bring over another side dish but we never saw her again. We finished our meal on a wet table and asked another waitress for the side dish and the drink that had been spilt. She failed to bring them over so instead knocked them off the bill as we didn't want to wait any longer. We weren't offered anything else to make up for the poor service. I wouldn't recommend or go back in a hurry there's plenty of other places that deal better with accidents and offer more for the inconvenience than a half hearted apology visited Wahaca Manchester on 01 Apr 2017

We were unable to stay for our reservation because you do not fry your vegetarian dishes separately from meat and fish and the majority of my party was vegetarian. We had dinner on at 20:00 at Wahaca and were sat at the bottom of stairs near the the kitchen. I have to say all four of us were extremely disappointed with the experience. We had been sat at the table for 15 minutes before anyone even came to offer us drinks. We found the waitress to be unwelcoming and unfriendly. I don't think she managed a smile the whole time she served us. On top of that two of us ordered burritos and both of them arrived cold. This is the second time we have eaten at Wahaca in Manchester. The first time we had an enjoyable experience and good food. Unfortunately after our experience on Friday we will not be coming back. visited Wahaca Manchester on 10 Feb 2017

We were a large group with various tricky dietary requirements and the staff were fantastic from start to finish, accommodating all our requests without hesitation and with a smile. The food was fabulous and mixed with the great service it made for a really enjoyable experience. Will definitely be back. visited Wahaca Manchester on 04 Feb 2017

Overall was left feeling slightly disappointed with the evening. Drinks were slow to appear every time we ordered and we had to ask repeatedly for drinks missing from the order. Similarly with the food; I know it comes out as it's prepared, but two of our meals were delivered after the other four of us had finished eating. Will probably avoid Wahaca in future. visited Wahaca Manchester on 04 Feb 2017

We had a group booking which after recommendation thought it would be best to preorder the food. We did this then after a considerable time the waitresses wanted to check everyones order was correct.. It then took a considerable amount of time again for the food to be actually served to the table by which time people were getting hungry and ended up ordering more drinks which they didnt really want to do. Food was ok but the service wasnt that great. visited Wahaca Manchester on 03 Feb 2017

The food was great, so tasty! I think when we arrived, it was at the busiest point of the evening, and our waitress and the bar staff could have done with a hand - they were dealing with everyone single handed and doing their best. visited Wahaca Manchester on 21 Jan 2017

Having been to wahaca many times before I was really disappointed. A group of 6 of us went for my birthday and all being busy mums we don't get out much so this was a treat. From the start the waitress serving us was rude. 3 times the wrong food came out. It took nearly an hour to actually order anything and everything we asked seemed a bother to her. The food as always was wonderful but the service has really put me off returning visited Wahaca Manchester on 21 Jan 2017

A table for 4. Two on street food, two on burritos. Service excellent, food perfect. Only criticism is that I never leave enough room for churros. If you haven't been to Wahaca, make sure you have Pork Pible tacos and Frijoles (with Chorizo) as a minimum visited Wahaca Manchester on 07 Jan 2017

We had a lovely night at Wahaca. All of the staff were wonderful. Gaz our server was very friendly and fast with our service. We were early but we still got seated. Our food was gorgeous. I had the steak and it's by far the best I've had in a long time. I had the churros for desert. They came with cinnamon on which I'm allergic too and they were very apologetic and made me a new batch very quickly. I've never been before but I will be returning and I will tell my friends about the wonderful time I had there. Thanks again. Happy new year. visited Wahaca Manchester on 31 Dec 2016

Food was really nice and service was great - Only downfall was where our table was. Would have been nice to be inside with a better atmosphere for a Christmas Party visited Wahaca Manchester on 15 Dec 2016

Eaten at Wahaca before so decidd to go again. Me, my partner and my 2 friends had are Christmas meal together, We had the festive menu and my friends the regular menu. We ordered are food as normal, first we had the starters, we werent too sure what we were given to be honest but it was good, then we started to be given the same food again and said we already had that, then it happened later on as well. The food was delicious just wasn't sure what we got or even if we got off the same christmas menu. The lady that served us Siobhan was brilliant as apologiesd about the nuisance and she offered us free tequila and also gave us are christmas menu free!! We weren't expecting that at all!! I was happy with the tequila to be honest. Just wanted to let you know how lovely the meal was and thanks again! We werent expecting this kind of service. Great job will definately be visiting again!! visited Wahaca Manchester on 17 Dec 2016
